Man Storms Church After Wife Gives His N390,000 Loan as Tithe

A Kenyan man, Geoffrey Odhiambo, stormed a church during service on Sunday demanding his Sh200,000 ( N390,000 ) loan that his wife gave as tithe for prayers against demons. He said his wife gave the money, for which a bank used his car as collateral, without his consent.
The wife however said she gave the money as tithe for prayers as there were evil spirits and devils in her house.
Odhiambo complained that it was not the first time the woman had taken money to “Jesus Elevation Tabernacle.”
It took male ushers more than 10 minutes to eject Odhiambo from the midday service moments before the APs Quick Response Team arrived. He has reported the matter at Kisumu Central police station.

Scientists Say That Women With Bigger Butts Give Birth To Smarter Kids

A study from the University of Oxford connects the big booty to healthy children.
According to a 2010 study from the University of Oxford, big butts result in healthy children because of the high amount of Omega 3 fatty acids (the good fatty acids) stored. These are the same fatty acids that are responsible for the normal development of the baby's brain.
But according to the Chicago Tribune, scientists have proved this a long time ago, in 2007 to be precise. They noted that women with fat-bottoms are smarter than women with flat-bottoms. Again, the reason is because of the heightened storage of Omega 3 fatty acids, which improves the functionality/development of their brain.
Evidence shows that the fat content in a mother's breast milk comes from her lower half of the body, which includes her thighs, buttocks, etc. This means that the high amount of Omega 3's becomes a part of the baby's balanced breakfast.
The high amount of Omega 3 storage could be the reason why fat-bottomed women seem attractive to men, because it becomes an evolutionary way of ensuring successful children. In the words of a common man; the reason why J. Lo seems so hot to men, is because men have a biological imperative to produce intelligent offspring.
William Lassek from the University of Pittsburgh, is the person who hypothesized this. He even went ahead and published a book titled "Why Women Need Fat."
But, having fat-bottoms is not the only way to having intelligent children. There are other factors that play a role in it, such as the overall fitness of your body, and the diet.
To conclude, stay active, stay healthy, and carry good fat below the waist, and of course, having healthy genetics doesn't hurt either.
The next study for William Lassek will undoubtedly be the biological imperative associated with an eye for blondes. But that's something we'll save for later.

WE WILL CONTEST INEC's DECISION IN COURT : IDRIS WADA SAYS

The Kogi state Governor Idris Wada, in a recent chat with newsmen, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will contest INEC's decision to allow APC replace its Guber candidate in court.
The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, reached a decision to allow the All Progressives Congress (APC) get a replacement for Abubakar Audu.
It also said that it will conduct supplementary
elections in 91 polling units.
Also, a source close Governor Wada said “INEC did not base its declaration on sound legal provisions, so what.they have done is not within their powers.
“The PDP legal team have been meeting since INEC.made the announcement.”
“I can categorically tell you that we are going to court.
“INEC did not base its declaration on sound legal
provisions, so what they have done is not within their.powers.
“Their role is to conduct election not try to adjust the.law to fit what the want.
“INEC’s decision is clearly bias because what it should have done, in allowing APC conduct another primary, was cancel the election so we go for a fresh one.
“In this matter, APC has been favoured and it behoves on us to act,” the source said.
Audu died on Sunday, November 22, 2015, after
participating in the polls and being in the lead the day before.
The elections were later declared inconclusive by INEC.due to irregularities in the 91 polling units earlier.mentioned.

Meet The Woman Biologically Allegic to Her Own Baby

. Joanne Mackie, a 28-year old mother from Erdington, West Midlands, discovered, after giving birth to her first child, that she has a rare skin disease called Pemphigoid Gestationis, which makes her allergic to her own baby. Mackie developed serious rashes and painful blisters shortly after giving birth to her son, James. The welts in her skin were so excruciating that she could not hold her own baby and was forced to cover her arms with damp towels to protect them while she feeds him. The condition, which is said to affect one in 50,000 pregnancies, arises when antibodies that normally protect the placenta become confused and attack the skin, causing blisters to form.

“At first, when I was told I was allergic to my own baby I thought it was some sort of joke,” said Mackie. “But when it sank in I was totally devastated. It felt like my world had caved in. It was such a heartbreaking time. I had to watch while my husband gave our son his first bath. And in those first few weeks when James cried I had to watch as my husband picked him up to comfort him instead of me.” Fortunately, a month after doctors treated her allergy using strong steroids, Mackie finally was able to hold her baby without feeling any pain. “I have been told there is a 95 percent chance I will get this in my next pregnancy and this time the doctors say it could affect the baby. I am not sure I could put myself through it all again,” said Mackie. “But I have learned that a cuddle from your own child is the most precious thing in the world. Now I can cradle my little lad, it’s heaven. I never want to let him go.”
Pemphigoid gestationis often appears in pregnancy during the second or third trimester and/or immediately after birth. It is usually treated with a course of corticosteroids like prednisone.

OPEN CALL : Negative Effects Of Smoking Shisha

It may interest you to know that #Shisha smoking is quite becoming the fastest trend now in parties, clubs, bars, and even some homes. Also known in some countries as narghile, hookah or goza; #Shisha is a waterpipe wit a bowl, a hose, a smoke chamber & a pipe/mouthpiece. Specially made tobacco is heated & the smoke passes through water, absorbed into a hose connected to a mouthpiece for the smoker, The origin of #Shisha is disputed, some say Turkey or India but it’s accepted it came from Middle East/Asia. Shisha is global now though.
Shisha smoking is a way of smoking tobacco, sometimes mixed with fruits or molasses sugar, through a bowl & a hose with a mouthpiece. The hose connects the flavored smoke from substances being burnt in the bowl to the lungs of the smoker through the mouthpiece Shisha pipes use tobacco sweetened wit fruits or molasses sugar which makes shisha smoking a more pleasurable experience than cigarettes.

Popular #Shisha flavors include apple, mango, strawberries, coconut & mint. This gives the smoked tobacco a sweet smell & smooth taste. The presence of the fruits & flavor makes the #Shisha damp, so the tobacco is burnt with wood/charcoal to bring out its smoke & aroma. The sweet scent, the pleasurable taste & the awesome feeling is the reason that #Shisha smoking is now a regular habit for many people. For some people, a Friday evening is not complete without at least one hour of #Shisha smoking. For others it’s up to 3 or 4 times a week.
Now because of the flavors, the sweet aroma & nice taste, there’s a gross misconception that #Shisha is NOT harmful, unlike cigarettes.
Others say since the tobacco smoke has passed through water, all the toxic chemicals in the #Shisha have been filtered out. This is a lie. I need to be very assertive in stating categorically that #Shisha smoking is a destructive habit regardless of the smoke being flavored. Despite the fact that #Shisha is flavored & passed through water, the carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) & nicotine remains very present. Regular #Shisha smokers should know they are at risk of the same medical problems as cigarette/tobacco smokers. The nicotine present in #Shisha smoke is very addictive & things may degenerate that the smoker may need the #Shisha every day.

According to a W.H.O research, the amount of smoke inhaled in one hour of #Shisha smoking is the same as smoking 100-200 cigarettes. People smoke #Shisha for longer periods than they smoke cigarettes. Just 1 puff of inhaled #Shisha smoke is like smoking a whole cigarette.
It’s hard to imagine but its true. Just one hour of #Shisha is same as smoking abt 100-200 cigarettes. Yet people smoke #Shisha for hours. The wrong assumption that Shisha smoking is harmless compared to cigarettes is the reason why many engage in reckless #Shisha smoking. Just like cigarettes, #Shisha smoke contains toxic agents like tobacco, nicotine, tar, Carbon monoxide, and heavy metals like Arsenic. The nicotine content of #Shisha is very addictive and may lead to a smoker being dependent.

That’s why they feel incomplete without it.Shisha smokers are at risk of heart disease, respiratory problems, various cancer types & in women, possible problems in pregnancy.
Is herbal #Shisha safe? NO. It is not. Shisha, whether herbal/not, usually contains tobacco & that is the cause of many medical issues. And even if u find a tobacco-free #Shisha, the smoke u inhale from the wood/charcoal contains Carbon monoxide that destroys the lungs.

Are fruit-based #Shisha safe? NO as well. Whether fruitbased or not, Shisha contains tobacco rich in smoke containing many toxins.
Also before You start feeling “This #Shisha talk is none of my business”, do u frequently visit bars/clubs where there’s a lot of Shisha smoking? If u go to bars/clubs with friends where there’s lots of #Shisha smoking, u are a secondary smoker, even if the tube isnt in your mouth. Shisha tobacco and smoke are medically known to contain carcinogenic agents that may cause lung cancer, oral cancer & bladder cancer. Babies born to pregnant women who smoke #Shisha weigh less at birth & are at higher risk of respiratory problems, than other babies.

The American Lung Association, the British Heart Foundation and the W.H.O all say that #Shisha smoking is medically harmful to smokers.
So after saying all the harmful consequences of #Shisha smoking, the solution is to STOP smoking. Let me give simple tips that may help.

1. Make up your mind to stop. That’s the first step & the most important step. Be determined to stop, even if u fail at first.

2 Try to avoid friends, occasions, bars & parties where u know u wont be able to say no to smoking. Think of ur health & stay determined

3 Always remember smoking, or drinking, is not synonymous to “class” or “being rich”. It is ignorant people that reason that way.

4 Cut down on alcohol. It has been found that some types of alcohol eg beer, usually makes smoking taste so good. Just stay away.

5 Identify times u crave #Shisha. Try to distract yourself. Walk away. Dance. Go online. Chew a gum. Make a call. Anything else but smoke.

6 Make friends with non smokers. That way u reduce temptation. Never envy smokers/see smoking as something you miss. Only think of your health.

ABOUT 500 NIGERIANS DEPORTED ARRAIVE NIGERIA, LAGOS

A plane carrying about 500 Nigerians deported from the UK has landed in Lagos

Most of the deportees say they are not happy to come back.

One person told me that he was arrested by British police and was not allowed to even take his belongings before being deported.

A few of them who say they don't have relatives here are stranded in the airport.

Recently, Nigeria expressed concern over UK's plan to deport 29,000 Nigerians, and has insisted that due process be followed before Nigerians are removed from the UK.

The West African nation says Britain must ensure that those been deported are really Nigerians, medically fit to travel and have a role to play in the country - meaning they should be able to fit into Nigerian society.

[MUST READ] Death Of Prince Abubakar Audu And The Legal Implications - By Festus Keyamo.

The reported death today, Sunday, November 22nd, 2015, of the APC candidate in the Kogi State Governorship elections, Prince Abubakar Audu, is extremely shocking and sad. I would like to express my condolences to the entire family of Audu and to the people of Kogi State.

However, the real question agitating the minds of everybody is the legal implication regarding the inconclusive Governorship elections at the time of his demise. To state it correctly he was said to have died AFTER the announcement of the results by INEC and after INEC had declared the elections inconclusive. Admittedly, this is a strange and novel constitutional scenario. It has never happened in our constitutional history to the extent that when an election has been partially conducted (and not before or after the elections) a candidate dies. What then happens?

This is a hybrid situation between what happened in the case of Atiku Abubakar/Boni Haruna in 1999 and the provision of section 33 of the Electoral Act, 2010.

In the case of Atiku Abubakar/Boni Haruna [which is now a clear constitutional provision of section 181(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended)]  the Supreme Court held, in effect, that “if a person duly elected as Governor dies before taking and subscribing the Oath of Allegiance and oath of office, or is unable for any reason whatsoever to be sworn in, the person elected with him as Deputy governor shall be sworn in as Governor and he shall nominate a new Deputy-Governor who shall be appointed by the Governor with the approval of a simple majority of the house of Assembly of the State”.

In the case of section 33 of the Electoral Act 2010 it provides, in effect, that if a person has been duly nominated as a candidate of his party and he dies before the election then the political party has the right to replace him with another candidate and not necessarily the Deputy Governorship candidate.

Now, does the Kogi situation fit into section 181(1) of the Constitution as quoted above or section 33 of the Electoral Act mentioned above?

My simple position is that the Kogi situation fits more into section 181(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and as such James Abiodun Faleke automatically becomes the governorship candidate of the APC. This is because even though the election in inconclusive, votes have been counted and allocated to Parties and candidates. As a result the joint ticket of Audu/Faleke has acquired some votes already. James Abiodun Faleke is as much entitled to those votes already counted as much as the late Abubakar Audu. He has a right to cling to those votes going into the supplementary election.

There is only one problem, though. Who nominates Faleke’s Deputy? Unlike section 181(1) of the 1999 Constitution, he cannot approach the House of Assembly of the State to approve a nomination by him of a Deputy. This is because, in reality, he is not duly elected yet. Therefore it is only reasonable to conclude that it is APC (Faleke’s political party) that should submit the name of a fresh Deputy Governorship candidate to INEC for the supplementary election.

This is the only position in this situation that accords with reason and good sense.

MTN SUFFERS ANOTHER GREAT LOSS AGAIN.

HIGH COURT AWARDS EZEEMONEY LIMITED DAMAGES AGAINST MTN UGANDA IN GROUND BREAKING COMPETITION CASE
EzeeMoney (U) Limited was established on the 9th August 2012 to provide Mobile Financial Services. An affiliate of Mobile Money International based in Malaysia, EzeeMoney set out to make the lives of Ugandans much easier by making mobile payments for goods and services as easy as possible and widely available as possible.
On starting up, EzeeMoney signed up with MTN Uganda Limited, a licensed telecom services provider, for the provision of the telephone and data services it needed to carry out its business.  EzeeMoney also signed up the services of a local telecom services aggregator to ease its interface with all licensed telecom services providers. Lastly EzeeMoney went about recruiting hundreds of retail mobile payments agents across Uganda, all of whom were given EzeeMoney’s signage and GSM enabled point of sales (POS) machines to service customers.
Shortly after the public launch of EzeeMoney’s business in January 2013 MTN Uganda Limited, perhaps perceiving EzeeMoney’s innovative offerings as a threat to its own Mobile Money product started taking hostile action against EzeeMoney; essentially trying to squeeze it out of the market and shut it down. In this campaign of hostile and underhanded action MTN Uganda Limited:
• Denied the use of EzeeMoney’s short code on its network;
• Threatened EzeeMoney’s aggregator with a complete denial of access to the dominant MTN network if the aggregator continued to work with EzeeMoney at all, causing the aggregator to the terminating the provision of services to EzeeMoney altogether in order to save its business;
• Cut off all of EzeeMoney’s call centre lines;
• Cut off all 300 data SIM cards that were being used in EzeeMoney’s GSM enabled POS machines; and
• Intimidated all agents who were also providing MTN Mobile Money into signing exclusivity agreements and, specifically, warned them against any dealings with EzeeMoney so as to essentially deny EzeeMoney access to the market.
• Harassed the agents to the extent of them being asked to write apology letters for dealing in EzeeMoney services before their MTN services were restored.
Frustrated and nearly brought to its knees by the hostile and anti-competitive acts of MTN Uganda Limited, EzeeMoney, the small startup company which had already created over 1000 jobs for young Ugandans, filed a suit in the Commercial Division of the High Court of Uganda. In the suit, EzeeMoney contended that MTN Uganda Limited’s actions were a breach of its duties under the provisions of the Uganda Communication Act 2013 as well as an unlawful interference with its contractual relationships with its aggregator and retail agents.
In a landmark judgment delivered on Friday the 6th October 2015, the Honourable Mr. Justice Henry Peter Adonyo of the Commercial Division of the High Court of Uganda, resolved all issues in favour of EzeeMoney and issued the following orders:
a) A declaration that the exclusivity agreements which the Mobile Money agents were compelled to sign with MTN Uganda Limited infringe section 53(1)(b) of the Communications Act 2013 and are therefore null and void;
b) A permanent injunction prohibiting MTN Uganda Limited from acting in an unlawful and anti-competitive manner as against EzeeMoney;
c) A permanent injunction restraining MTN Uganda Limited from inducing any third parties to breach their contracts with EzeeMoney;
d) An award of Ug. Shs. 800,000,000/= (Eight Hundred Million Uganda Shillings), being general damages for loss of business arising from MTN Uganda Limited’s anti-competitive actions;
e) An award of Ug. Shs. 1,500,000,000/= (One Billion Five Hundred Million Uganda Shillings), being punitive damages against MTN Uganda Limited, to act as a deterrent to MTN Uganda Limited and other entities with similar anti-competitive conduct to stand warned that courts will not tolerate illegality and highhandedness in the conduct of business in Uganda;
f) Interest on (d) and (e) above at court rate from the date of judgment until payment in full; and
g) Costs of the suit.
Clearly the laws of Uganda protect small players from abusive and predatory anti-competitive behaviour and there is now an injunction prohibiting MTN Uganda Limited from unlawfully interfering with EzeeMoney’s business and business relationships. EzeeMoney expects MTN Uganda Limited to respect and comply with the lawful orders of the High Court of Uganda.
Justice has been served and the management of EzeeMoney pledges to continue providing innovative services to the people of Uganda and to do even better now that the unlawful impediments in its way have been lifted.

FG bans importation of ‘I better pass my neighbour’ generators

The 2hp generator popularly known as “I better pass my neighbor” has been banned by the Federal Government.

The Controller, Federation Operations Unit Zone A, Lagos of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Madugu Sanni Jubrin, disclosed this in Lagos on Wednesday.

He said that the government took the action because of the dangerous effect of the generator smoke on the health of Nigerians.

It will be recalled that the generator smoke had led to death of many Nigerians due to lack of regular supply of electricity.
According to Jubrin, the government banned but some importers are still trying to smuggle it into the country, adding, “That is why we have to enforce the law and ensure that we confiscate any imported smallest generator.

“If you go to the market, you still see them because people have imported them before the ban. So it is the leftover they had before the ban that they are selling because the law did not backdate the ban and it is not an absolute prohibition.

“It is prohibition by trade which means you cannot bring it in large quantity and sell to the public. That is the type of prohibition we have on this but if you buy one piece, Customs will not seize it.

“We will not relent in our efforts. When we see any prohibited item, we will seize, arrest the people and we will allow the law court to take decision on prosecuting them. So it is better for them to stop smuggling than to continue when they know Customs will catch up with them,” he said.

Facebook activates "Safety Check" for Nigeria blasts after criticism

www.facebook.com has finally bowed to pressure and activated its "Safety Check" feature after deadly blasts in Nigeria late on Tuesday.

The Facebook has been criticised by the users that the social media network was being selective about deploying it.

The social network, however, activated it after Friday's gun and bomb attacks in Paris, drawing criticism from some users because the feature was not activated for suicide bombings in Beirut a day earlier.

Both the Paris and Beirut attacks were claimed by Islamic State militants.

In a post on his Facebook page, Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said the feature would now we be used more frequently.

"After the Paris attacks last week, we made the decision to use Safety Check for more tragic events like this going forward," he said. Tuesday's blast at a Nigerian market killed 32 people and wounded 80 others.

Facebook said it decided to activate the feature as news of the Paris attacks unfolded because of the level of activity on its 1.55-billion-user network. People in Paris were posting to let their friends and family know they were safe, Alex Schultz, Facebook vice president of growth, wrote in a post Saturday.

Facebook usually activates the feature, which allows users to mark themselves as safe, after natural disasters, but not bombings or attacks.

MTN Again? Uganda Fines MTN $622,000 For 'Anti-Competition Business Tactics'

It is not only in Nigeria that MTN has run foul of the rules. It is also in hot water in Uganda, going by this report by Uganda’s New Vision newspaper:
The Commercial court in Uganda has ordered telecom giant, MTN Uganda to pay a sum of Shs 2.3bn (about $662,000) in damages to EzeeMoney Limited for sabotaging its business.
Justice Henry Peter Adonyo on November 6, 2015 also ordered MTN to stop acting in unlawful and anti-competitive manner, which denies other businesses an opportunity to prosper.
Justice Adonyo said MTN should pay Shs 800m to EzeeMoney in general damages for loss of business. It should also pay a penalty of Shs 1.5bn in punitive damages to deter not only MTN but also warn other companies against uncompetitive business tactics.
It all started when EzeeMoney, which runs an e-money business, obtained a contract from MTN for the provision of digital transmission [E1] and 30 fixed telephone lines to carry out its mobile money business.
EzeeMoney then contracted Yo! Uganda Limited (YUL) to implement the service after Uganda Communications Commission, the regulator, approved it on December 2012, to use the 7711 short code to enable its customers to subscribe for e-money services.
But in 2013, MTN cancelled the contract, saying EzeeMoney was a direct competitor to its mobile money business. Through AF Mpanga and company advocates, EzeeMoney went to court, saying MTN’s action “restricted and distorted competition.”
EzeeMoney said MTN also damaged its ties with YUL and deprived it of services of other telecommunications operators. It argued that MTN used its exclusivity agreements to stop its agents from working for any other firm with similar business, further limiting competition.
‘ILLEGAL ACTIONS’
In a January 28, 2013 letter to EzeeMoney, MTN appeared to say its business would be disrupted if the former was given access to its platform.
“EzeeMoney is in direct competition with MTN in the provision of mobile money,” read the letter in part.
Justice Adonyo said the letter confirmed that MTN was stopping services of the company because it considered it a competitor.
“It is testified that when YUL required the defendant [MTN] to activate the plaintiff’s [EzeeMoney]short code on its platform, the defendant declined to do so on the basis that the plaintiff was in direct competition with it,” the judge observed.
“YUL then seeing that the plaintiff couldn’t carry out the business they had agreed together, by a letter dated 7/2/2013, did terminate all services with the plaintiff as YUL did not want to jeopardize its relationship with the defendant.”
David Mpanga, EzeeMoney’s lead counsel, said MTN’s action of not activating the short code and the subsequent cancellation by YUL led to loss of business.
“The denial of the use of the defendant’s [MTN] platform to the plaintiff [EzeeMoney] by the defendant would thus be an act which is prohibited within the meaning of section 53(1) (a) of the Act [Communications] for it limited competition,” Adonyo said.
AGENTS STOPPED
The judge also found that MTN coerced its agents to reject EzeeMoney. One witness, Sammy Mwathi, told court that he was an MTN money agent and he was restricted from dealing with other firms in the same business by signing exclusivity agreement.
“The perusal of the exclusivity agreement itself confirms the position that the defendant acted outside the law for it appears it used coercive methods like denial of services to its agents,” he said. “[This] prohibited fair competition… and [was] contrary to the provisions of the law.”

Road Crashs at Toll-Gate, Sango-Ota clamps lifes and leave many injured

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Ota, Ogun, said five persons had died and 12 others sustained injuries in two separate accidents at the Toll-Gate, Sango-Ota, on Wednesday.

The Unit Commander of the FRSC in the area, Mr Leye Adegboyega, told NAN in Ota that the first accident occurred at about 12:10 a.m., while the second one happened at about 6:40 a.m.

Adegboyega attributed the two crashes that occurred on the same spot to “carelessness” on the part of the drivers of the trucks involved in the accidents.

He said that the brake of a Larfarge trailer that was heading to Lagos from Abeokuta failed and rammed into eight vehicles which resulted in the death of five persons while four persons sustained various degrees of injury in the first accident.

“All efforts by the FRSC officials to get the registration number of the Larfarge truck proved abortive because the truck fell into a ditch.

“The drivers and the motor boys that were involved in the two accidents also absconded because of the weight of the offences they committed,” he said.

Adegboyega said the second accident which involved a truck with registration number KRD-215 XB loaded with gravels, was also heading toward Lagos when it lost control due to brake failure and crashed into eight other vehicles.

He said the total number of people involved in the two accidents was 17, while five died and four sustained various injuries in the first accident.

He said eight persons sustained minor injuries in the second accident.

“The five corpses had been deposited at the State Hospital, Sango-Ota, while the other four injured in the first accident are receiving treatment at the same hospital,” the unit commander said.

He appealed to the Federal Government to construct speed breakers along the toll gate and its environs to check speeding and reduce road crashes in the area.

Google Announces Offline Navigation And Search On Google Maps

Google Maps has rolled out a new offline mode allowing for driving directions and search, providing access to turn-by-turn directions and several other features in areas without a reliable cellular data or internet connection.
According to BBC reports, the new features will begin rolling out to Android users later on Tuesday, and Google says the iOS roll out will follow soon. Offline search and navigation was one of the biggest announcements, nearly six months later, that feature is finally reaching users.
The option to save certain areas has existed in Google Maps since 2012, but this is the first time they have been indexed for search and navigation. That means if you save the city you live in, you will be able to search for a place to have dinner and get a response without a cellular connection. Because of space constraints, the businesses stored will have names, star ratings, and phone numbers, but no photos or user reviews.
Similarly, directions will work from average traffic time rather than loading in real-time traffic data, although the route will update as soon as the connection is restored. The initial rollout does not include transit or walking directions, largely due to space considerations, but Google says those features will be added in the months to come.
The feature will be most useful for anyone navigating without a cellular connection, either in a dead zone or a foreign country that requires a second SIM. But project manager Amanda Bishop says even standard users will notice maps loading faster, because of the erratic nature of even the best data connections.
According to Google’s research, the average phone is offline for 10 percent of the day, much of which results from simple network congestion.

BUHARI TO REWARD 85 EAGLETS 30 YEARS AFTER

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday assured the
Golden Eaglets team that won the maiden FIFA
Under-17 World Cup in China in 1985 that his
administration would fulfil the promises he made to
them 30 years ago.
Buhari, who was Head of State, had promised the
team houses and scholarships during a reception in
honour of the players at Dodan Barracks, Lagos, in
celebration of the victory.

Nduka Ugbade, who was the captain of the team, was
the only player in the China ’85 FIFA Under-17 World
Cup squad that progressed to win a major title for
Nigeria at the senior level. The former Spain-based
defender won the Tunisia ’94 Africa Cup of Nations.
He assisted Manu Garba to guide the Golden Eaglets
to the UAE 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup triumph.
Baldwin Bazuaye and Jonathan Akpoborie also
graduated to the Super Eagles. Bazuaye was in the
squad that won silver at the Algiers ’90 Africa Cup of
Nations. Akpoborie won bronze at the Senegal ’92
Africa Cup of Nations.
But the likes of Hilary Adiki, Fatai Atere, Binebi Numan,
Joseph Babtunde, Salisu Nakande, Victor Igbinoba,
Tonworinmi Duere, Lucky Agbonsevbafe, Bella Momoh,
Chukwuma Nwoha, Sani Adamu and Dele Abubakar
failed to progress in their careers. Defender Kingsley
Aikhionbare died in the United Kingdom.
Sebastine Brodericks-Imasuen was the head coach
while Christian Chukwu was his assistant.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on
Media and Publicity Garba Shehu said in a statement
on Tuesday that the President was not happy that his
directive to state governments to reward the Eaglets in
1985 was not complied with.
“It is a pity that those promises were never fulfilled. It
is unfortunate that our players, who did us proud on
the world stage, went unrewarded for their efforts,
despite a presidential directive to the state
administrators that they should be honoured in their
home states,” the statement quoted Buhari as saying.
The statement said the Federal Government fulfilled
its own commitment by sponsoring the players to
Mexico to watch the 1986 World Cup.
He added that the promises of houses and
scholarships and naming of streets after each player
were supposed to have been taken care of by the
states.
The statement noted that shortly after the promises
were made, Buhari was overthrown and that despite
repeated pleas made to succeeding governments by
the players and their officials, some of the promises
were not fulfilled.
“I apologise for whatever embarrassment and
disillusionment in your country these raised and then
dashed hopes may have caused you. My government
will do all within its power to remedy the situation,”
the statement quoted the President as saying.

2 students die from initiation concoction in Kogi

Two teenagers, who finished their secondary education this year (names withheld), have been reported dead in Kabba, Kogi State, in mysterious circumstance.
Sources told Vanguard that their deaths were in connection with cult initiation by a confraternity in the town.
When contacted, the parents of the teenagers said they were too devastated to speak to the press. They told Vanguard that they did not want the incident reported for fear of police harassment.
A source, who craved anonymity, said the boys died of complications which resulted from drinking a “hard substance,” which was part of the initiation. He said the boys voluntarily sought to join the confraternity.
The source said:

“From what was gathered, one of the boys was given a very hard concoction to drink during his initiation into Eiye confraternity by the leaders of the cult group. “The substance, which was laden with very hard drugs, led to the death of the poor boy.”

However, a new twist has emerged in the controversy surrounding the teenagers’ deaths.
Another account has it that the boy took performance enhancing drugs which overstretched his system and led to his demise.
According to this account, four teenagers were involved in taking the concoction known in local parlance as Sukudie.
He said the teenagers, who resided at Odiolowo CAC area of Kabba, were rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Kabba, before two of them died.
The two survivors, according to the source, are Ebira boys from Okene.

N5,000 stipend: PDP reject Buhari, APC Senators move to ease the unemployed NYSC graduate

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that Wednesday’s rejection by the All Progressives Congress, APC, senators of N5,000 monthly stipend, underscored the “monumental hypocrisy” of their party in getting to power by means of deceit and false promises to Nigerians.
APC had promised payment of N5,000 to unemployed Nigerians as a social security
package during electioneering campaign.
PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Thursday said the development was a clear confirmation that the APC was a party of “hypocrites, who never had the intentions of honouring any of their campaign promises”.
“The PDP declares that it is absolutely obvious to all that the APC came to power riding on monumental lies and deceit in making promises they had no intentions to keep.
“All they wanted was to get into power and they achieved this with their lying tongues.
“Indeed, the unanimity displayed by the APC senators in rejecting the promised N5, 000 monthly welfare package, especially coming after their party and the presidency had made futile efforts to distance themselves from it, further stresses the duplicitous spirit of the APC and its reprehensible insensitivity to the feelings and aspirations of Nigerians, especially the unsuspecting youths, women and the indigent, who they shamelessly swindled with false promises.
“From the foregoing therefore, Nigerians should not expect any sincere action from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government on the other promises including monthly allowance to discharged but unemployed NYSC members, free meals and scholarship to school children, free houses, bringing the naira to the same value with the dollar.
“Our position remains that the APC has sufficiently confirmed to the world that they have a lot to learn on the leadership values of honesty, integrity, credibility and forthrightness.
“Finally, we invite Nigerians to note the powers amply vested in them by the constitution under a democracy as we urge them to stand on such powers and hold the APC and its government accountable for all their campaign promises,” the party said.

Father Of Two, Tortured To Death At Sokoto Checkpoint By Policemen

When Sadiya Shehu Shinkafi of Shinkafi, Zamfara State, sent her younger brother, Shehu Yahaya, to buy some chickens at the Teke market in the neighbouring Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, she never knew she would never see him alive again. His lifeless body was reportedly found in a nearby bush.
The 25-year-old father of two children was allegedly tortured to death by some policemen at a checkpoint along the Isa-Sabon Birni road. Yahaya was said to have observed that President Buhari had ordered the stoppage of all checkpoints, a comment which was said to have angered the policemen who were purportedly collecting money from drivers.
Narrating the incident, Alhaji Shehu, father of the deceased said: “When the vehicle in which the late Yahaya was travelling moved on, the police at the check- point trailed them because of what he said.”
Yahaya’s friend, Bashar Nahantsi, who was travelling with him recounted: “The policemen ordered the two of us to come out of the vehicle, claiming that they suspected us of drug abuse. We came down and they arrested us, but my late friend freed himself from their grip and ran away, leaving me with them. They stripped me and tied my hands from behind, using my vest. They asked if I had anyone who could stand for me. I said yes and called one of my elders. They did not see him, but they said I should not worry. They tied my hands and feet.
“Later, my friend who ran away came back. I was put under the custody of two mobile policemen under a tree. They asked me to lie low in the grass so they could arrest my friend. They arrested him, but he later escaped into a farm. He was chased by the two mobile policemen.”
Bashar said one of his relatives later came to meet him and negotiated for their bail with N1,500.
“By then, they had come back with my friend in an unconscious state and dumped him on the ground. At that time, he could not even sit properly. I had to support him with my feet before he could sit down.
“After collecting N1, 500, they ordered that I should carry my friend to where we could get a vehicle home. When I realised the condition they had subjected my friend to, I told them I couldn’t do anything.
“I managed to get away from them. It was two days after the encounter, while I was at a village that I got to know of my friend’s death. The police killed him.”
Yahaya’s father, who was away when the incident happened, recalled amidst tears: “I was at Birnin Gwani when the incident happened on Sunday.
I came back home on Tuesday to find out that my house was filled with people. Upon enquiry I was told that my son Yahaya had died. I asked if he was sick and the people told me that it was policemen who killed him at Teke market.”
He said that those who washed and dressed his son’s lifeless body testified that his neck was fractured and that he had bruises on it as though he was strangled.
He added that it was Yahaya’s sister, in the company of a driver, one Kabiru, who went to get the corpse at a hospital in Sabon Birni.
“I have left everything to Allah, but I demand that justice be done,” he concluded.
For Yahaya’s sister, Sadiya also recounted, “0n Sunday morning I gave my younger brother N37, 000 to buy chicken for me, but about 4pm the same day, his wife came to inform me that he dead. His corpse was covered with neem leaves. I uncovered the corpse and discovered it was my younger brother, Yahaya. I regretted that I sent him to his untimely death.”
The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State command, Salisu Fagge, confirmed that five policemen had been arrested and investigation was still on.
“The deceased’s parents alleged that the police had killed their son at a certain town. We investigated and arrested the policemen who were alleged to have carried out the assault. We called witnesses who testified to us. We will penalise any offender, whoever he is, whether police or civilian. Whoever commits any wrong must be brought to order. The law must take its course. No one should be above the law,” the police boss said, adding, however, that, “There are procedures to be followed before the suspects are taken to court. We have to follow due process

Nigeria-made rapid urine test for malaria wins Health Innovation Awards

A Nigeria-made malaria test that can diagnose the disease within 25 minutes using just drops of patients’ urine sample has won the inaugural 2015 Health Innovation Challenge Awards.
The awards was instituted by the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PHN) through the Nigeria Health Innovation Marketplace (NHIM).
