President-elect inaugurates 19-member Transition Committee

The President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday in Abuja inaugurated a 19-member Transition Committee to liaise with its Federal Government counterpart to ensure a smooth transition.
A statement issued in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Committee (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the terms of reference of the committee include to develop a clear framework for liaison with the out-going Administration for purposes of a smooth hand-over/take-over and to receive hand-over documents from Ministries, Departments and Agencies and itemise the most important or most urgent issues confronting the in-coming government
It said the committee is also saddled with reviewing and making preliminary assessment of the balance sheet of government with particular emphasis on the status of assets and liabilities of government; cash flow position of the government; quantum of public domestic and external debt of government and their deployment; government’s out-standing contractual obligations and its ability to meet such obligations and the status of implementation of capital projects.
The committee is also expected to undertake a preliminary assessment of the security challenges facing the country and the counter-insurgency measures taken by the government thus far; the counter policy measures being implemented in the Niger Delta to deal with unrest and major economic crimes in the area. In particular, the status of the Amnesty Programme, the readiness of the Police and other national security and intelligence agencies in addressing threats to law and order and provide a brief over-view of CBN, NNPC, NCC, Customs and
FIRS.
Other terms of reference of the committee include to suggest “quick fixes” which will result in tangible, visible and practical measures so that CHANGE will be seen after 30 days, after 100 days, after 6 months of the Administration taking office, and to make any other observations which in view of the Committee would be helpful to the transition and take-off of the new Administration. The committee has two weeks to conclude its work
Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja on Wednesday, the President-elect charged the committee to ”assess the information provided to you and advise me on its quality and accuracy. It is a simple matter that you must have the right information if you are to shape appropriate policy decisions.
”Needless to repeat, that your Committee – and indeed our Government – are not on a witch-hunt or engaged in fault-finding. We want the facts and nothing but the facts. What has been done can not be undone. Our job is to learn from the mistakes of the past and attempt to avoid similar.”
Gen. Buhari hailed the calibre of the committee’s membership, saying they represent some of the best Nigeria can offer. He described the committee chairman, Malam Ahmed Joda, as one of the few surviving links between First Republic civil service to the present day, a man whose versatility includes farming, industry and 21st Century IT and one of Nigerian’s precious assets.

IGBO SLAUGHTERED THEMSELVES The Fallacy Of Ethnic Gang Up Against President Jonathan?

IGBO SLAUGHTERED THEMSELVES
The Fallacy Of Ethnic Gang Up Against
President Jonathan?
First it was Asari Dokubo who said President
GOODLUCK Ebele Jonathan’s defeat was a
‘gang up’. In his words “the voting pattern has
clearly shown that the Gambari North and the
Yoruba are united in the conquest of the Niger
Deltans and the Igbo of defunct Biafra with the
Middle Belt now used as pawns”. Then Daniel
Elombah in his very bias piece titled “Goodluck
Jonathan, the coward that led the Igbos to the
slaughter” said there was no elections on May
28 and the whole elections was just a decision
that President Jonathan be replaced by a
Northern Muslim. For all they care the
southwest voted for APC because of Osinbajo,a
yoruba man and the North voted APC because
of Buhari, a fulani man. Doyin Okupe gave the
‘gang up’ theory another dimension when he
wrote on his facebook wall that President
Jonathan lost because of “national and
international conspiracy”. To them President
Jonathan’s failed re-election bid has nothing to
do with his poor scorecard as an incumbent.
When do they intend telling Mr President the
truth? Chinua Achebe said in his last book that
“…part of the way to respond to confusion in
Nigeria is to blame those from other ethnic
groups or the other side of the country”.
Let’s not mislead people or try to misrepresent
this historic moment because we find ourselves
on the wrong side Of history. President
Jonathan failed everybody including the Niger
deltans and Igbo people. Can anybody in these
places sincerely say they are better off as a
people since Goodluck became President? The
Niger deltans and the Igbo people could easily
forgive him to continue because he is “their
brother” [sincerely I don’t understand how he is
the brother of the Igbos] but the rest of Nigeria
couldn’t and that is the summary of the
Presidential Elections. Let us quickly look at the
voting pattern in the 2011 and 2015 Presidential
elections in some geo-political zones to put to
bed all the noise about ethnic gang up.
In 2011 Presidential election,General Buhari
didn’t even come second in the southwest with
a yoruba man as his running mate,so why will
the yoruba people suddenly decide to vote
Buhari because of Pastor Osinbajo? President
Jonathan lost in the north-central states of
Kogi,Benue and Kwara, these are places he won
last term with a landslide. It’s hard to believe he
lost all these states because of a gang up. While
in 2011,President Jonathan won in Taraba and
Adamawa,he lost one of the two states this time
around and then went ahead to win with a
landslide in south-south and South-east geo-
political zone. If he won with a landslide as
expected in his stronghold then he shouldn’t
complain if General Buhari won with a landslide
in his stronghold of North-east and Northwest.
If the President lost in many states he won last
time to become President, the first thing to ask
is if he fulfilled his campaign promises to them
and if he did, that’s where a ‘gang up’
conspiracy can sell. President Jonathan failed to
fulfil his campaign promises. He didn’t show
sympathy or empathy when boko haram
kidnapped, butchered and burnt school children in
the North-east but expected to get their votes
and the votes of other Nigerians? In a country
with 112 million poor people, our President was
spending N1billion on food alone and he
expected people to vote for him. Under his
watch, young people were exploited and killed in
the name of NIS recruitment exercise. Did Mr
President think we have forgiven him for
increasing the price of petrol in the name of
subsidy removal? How can we forgive a
President that went partying in less than 24hrs
after the Nyanya terrorist attack? While Mr
President was telling us about almajiri
schools, the number of illiterates increased to
35million. Mr President told us we are now the
largest economy in Africa but states are finding
it difficult to pay salaries and unemployment is
still very high. He sacked a government official
who said huge amount of money was missing
and gave presidential pardon to a treasury looter
but expected us to believe he is fighting
corruption. Mr President lost because he failed
to discharge his responsibilities as a President.
The many sins of President Jonathan are too
numerous to mention.
In 2011,he came to Nigerians as a very humble
man, telling whoever cared to listen that his
ambition is not worth the blood of anybody but
in 2015 he came back to us for re-election with
the burden of broken promises,squandered
goodwill and gross incompetence. Maybe he
thought it was possible for him to manipulate
his way by using ethnicity, religion and dollars.
The ethnic card was always going to work
against him because he was from a minority
ethnic group. He couldn’t use religion again as
APC were a step ahead of him by choosing Prof
Osinbajo(a pastor of the Redeem Christian
Church of God) as the running mate of General
Buhari. By the time he started dollarizing the
political landscape,it was too late. If tomorrow
President Jonathan wants to know why he failed
in his re-election bid,he should look within and
not outside. His government was too business
as usual and as the looting of our common
wealth increased to an unimaginable level,so
also did poverty, hunger and frustration increased
on the side of the masses. The people couldn’t
take it any more and APC capitalised on this.
Those 15,424,921 votes that sent President
Jonathan packing were not votes against ijaw or
the south-south,there were votes against an
incompetent President.
I find it difficult to believe that anybody
supported President Jonathan because of his
performance. They supported him out of
selfishness or ethnic sentiments or both. He was
no Lee Kuan Yew,he was neither Nelson
Mandela nor a Martin Luther King,he is the
perfect example of a failed President. No matter
how you try to twist this historic moment,it will
not change the truth. Under President Jonathan
Nigeria was heading for destruction and the only
way to restore hope was to vote him out and we
did exactly that. This is the beginning of a new
dawn. Let’s stop preaching unnecessary hate
and division, its time to join hands and build a
great nation.

World Bank gives Nigeria N99.5b to improve maternal health

World Bank gives Nigeria N99.5b to improve maternal health
The World Bank said it has released N99.5 billion ($500 million) for the Nigerian government to improve on maternal and child health and nutrition.
In a statement, the World Bank said the fund was approved by the World Bank Group’s Board of Executive Directors through the International Development Association. The fund is expected to “significantly” improve maternal, child, and nutrition health services for women and children in Nigeria.
Through this funding, an improvement in the access of higher quality health service in order to achieve Nigeria’s “Saving One Million Lives, SOML, Initiative,” a project is paramount.
The SOML initiative was launched by Nigeria’s Ministry of Health in October 2012 to save the lives of the more than 900,000 women and children who die every year in Nigeria from largely preventable causes.
Nigeria accounts for 14 per cent of all annual maternal deaths worldwide, second only to India at 17 per cent. Similarly, Nigeria accounts for 13 per cent of all global deaths of children under the age of five years, again second only to India at 21 per cent.
The World Bank’s funding support for the initiative will utilize the Program-for-Results, PforR, instrument to encourage a greater focus on results, increase accountability, improve measurements, strengthen management, and foster innovation.
This program will help strengthen Nigeria’s health system and development says, Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly, Nigeria’s Country Director.
Ms. Marie-Nelly said the program will also provide an important tool for bringing both government and development partners together around a commitment to achieve specific, tangible results.
These funds, World Bank said will only be disbursed to the Federal and State governments for independently verified improvements in key services such as vaccination coverage among young children, rates of contraceptive use, Vitamin A supplementation and skilled birth attendance.
Others include: HIV counselling and testing among women attending antenatal care, and preventing new malaria infections among children by using insecticide- treated bed nets when they sleep.
Also, Federal and State governments receive incentive payments for better tackling governance and management issues in the health sector and for improving the quality of basic health services.
SOML will be implemented under the Federal Ministry of Health, in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Finance which will provide the financial oversight role while new health operation is expected to start implementation on August 1, 2015.
The operation will end after four years, in December 2019

Verification: FRSC To Share License Details With Security Agencies

Verification: FRSC To Share License Details With Security Agencies

The Federal Road Safety Commission(FRSC) said it would work with relevant security agencies to ensure quick verification of licenses.
FRSC said the measure was to apprehend erring drivers or vehicle owners in the country.
This was disclosed by Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal of the commission, while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Friday at the end of the quarterly session with commanding officers of the agency.
According to Oyeyemi, FRSC cannot do it alone, and so, inter-agency cooperation is required to apprehend road traffic offenders and reduce crashes.
“We can’t do this alone, we need the support of all the other security agencies, especially the police.
“The Nigeria Customs Service has been working with us, so also the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
“We will work with all the relevant security agencies in the country. Anybody can verify the drivers license and vehicle registration.
“ We are going to do the same thing with number plates.
The corps marshal further said the commission also needed the services of the Judiciary to prosecute offenders.
He said that prosecution of offenders; prompt response to accident victims; removal of obstructions; use of cell phone while driving and seat belt violation topped the list of the commission’s priority, this year.
The 2015 second quarterly session was attended by commanding officers of  all FRSC commands and schools across the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the commission, had, after consultation with stakeholders in the road sector, fixed 100km/h as the maximum speed for private vehicles and 80km/h for commercial vehicles.
NAN also recalls that the commission had fixed June 1 for the commencement of enforcement of installation of Speed limiting Device (SLD) on every commercial vehicle in the country.(NAN)

Ondo Mysterious Disease Is Spiritual, Local Chief Reveals Mystery Behind Deaths

A local chief in Ondo State has
explained the “mystery” behind a
strange and unknown killer disease
that has ravaged a town in the state,
killing at least 14 people.
The community leader, Moses
Enimade, the Oyewoga of Ode Irele in
Ondo State, said the disease came as
punishment for the “sacrilege”
committed against Molokun, the local
deity in the area.
Mr. Enimade, next in command to the
Oba, Cornelius Olanrewaju-Lebi,
stated this in Irele on Saturday. No
fewer than 14 people have died of
severe headaches and blindness in
the town recently.
There have been no explanation for
the disease. Victims have tested
negative to Ebola, the deadly and
incurable virus that killed thousands
across West Africa, including Nigeria.
Mr. Enimade debunked the rumour
that the deaths were caused by
strange disease or Ebola virus. Mr.
Enimade said some stubborn youth
broke into the inner room of the
Molokun shrine on April 15. “Molokun
is a deity of the land,” he said. “Only
the Chief Priest and High Chief
Gboguron are qualified to enter the
shrine.”
The chief said the youth entered the
shrine and made away with traditional
items in a bid to acquire extra-
ordinary powers and engage in money
ritual. “They were not qualified to
enter the (shrine),” he said. “They
had to face the death penalty.”
The Oyewoga said he could not
remember the last time Molokun or
any other gods had to strike like this
in the area.
According to him, there is no
community or town without its own
culture and tradition. He said what
happened in Irele was the judgement
of the gods on the youth. “Even the
Kabiesi himself is not permitted to
enter the Molokun Shrine’s inner
room except the Chief Priest and High
Chief Gboguron. Sacrifice must be
performed before they can enter.
“Because these youths want to be
rich at all costs, they entered the
sacred place and made away with
traditional items and 20 of them have
died as a result of their desperate
acts,” he said. “We have to appease
the gods or else many will still die
and we have to bury them according
to tradition. Their corpses belong to
the gods and will be exhumed if
buried by their families.”
He restated that the deaths were not
caused by diseases or Ebola as
widely speculated.
“The death caused by Molokun is
characterised by severe headache and
blindness,” he said. “Proverbs 29:1 in
the Bible say: `He that had been
reproved and hardened his neck shall
suddenly be destroyed without
remedy; so youths of nowadays must
be careful.’”
Some residents appealed to the chief
priest to make the necessary
atonement to avert calamity in the
town. They said news of the deaths
had given the town and state a bad
name. Sheed Osuolale said he was
afraid when the news broke.
Esther Bantefa said the news had
given the town and the state a bad
name. She said the chief priest
should as a matter of urgency perform
necessary rituals. “Our people in
Lagos and other towns called us to
get information if it was Ebola
outbreak,” she said.
Tayo Akinyelure said parents should
warn their children against going near
shrines. “Many youths do not believe
in all these traditions and customs,”
Mrs. Akinyelure said. “It is high time
parents warned their children against
committing sacrilege.”

Xenophobia: Fish out killers of Nigerians, others – TUC tells South Africa

Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has
condemned the on-going xenophobic attacks
against foreigners, especially Nigerians in
South Africa.
They also urged Jacob Zuma-led government
to take all necessary steps to stop the
dastardly act of stealing, killing and taking
over people’s property in Johannesburg,
Durban and Pretoria.
A statement signed yesterday by the
president-general, Comrade Bobboi Bala
Kaigama and the general secretary, Comrade
Musa Lawal, noted that the act at this time
and age was appalling, abysmal and beastly.
“It is true that the government of South
Africa and other countries of the world have
condemned the attacks, yet we demand that
the government investigate and punish those
involved in accordance with the provisions
of the law of the land,” TUC said.
“Again, if the comments we have read in the
dailies and social media credited to the Zulu
King, Goodwill Zwelithini and son of Zuma,
Edward asking non South Africans to return
to their countries is anything to go by, then
it means they have forgotten in a hurry how
Nigeria and the rest of the world rallied and
mobilised support for the country during its
apartheid experience.
“Indeed, what is happening is nothing but a
demonstration of shortness of memory and
we feel more terrible about the whole thing
because of the underground role of some
prominent people in government.”

Fayose begs for forgiveness

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has
said he is ready for dialogue with his opponents to bring
peace to the state.
He also asked for forgiveness from those he might have
offended, saying “nobody is perfect.”
Fayose spoke on Friday at a special prayer session organised
for him by the Ansar-udeen Mosque, Atikankan in Ado-Ekiti
to celebrate his recent electoral victory at the Supreme
Court.
The 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers of the Ekiti
State House of Assembly have issued a notice of
impeachment to the governor, citing eight impeachable
offences.
The embattled Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, had last week
Thursday requested the state Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji
Daramola, to raise a seven-man panel within seven days of
receipt of the letter to investigate Fayose and his deputy, Dr.
Kolapo Olusola, over allegations of impunity, violence and
stalking among other constitutional breaches.
Fayose said, “If they say someone has enemies, I’m number
one in the world. But God has been merciful and has been
helping me to overcome my challenges.
“I need your prayers because it will strengthen me more. I’m
here in the mosque to thank God.
“All I want is peace. I have a constitutionally guaranteed
tenure. A governor is judged by his achievements in office.
All I’m interested in is to bring development to my people.
My opponents know if I have a rest of mind I will achieve my
objectives.
“All those I have offended should forgive me for the sake of
the masses and orphans. They should know people gave me
the mandate. Nobody is above mistake; they should forgive
me.”
The governor said a lot of people in the state had been living
in palpable fear of the unknown before the judgment of the
Supreme Court.
“We are here to thank God and pray for peace. I’m appealing
to those aggrieved to please allow peace to reign.
“There is no perfect man. They should allow peace to reign.
All I want is peace that will energise development.
“Anything that can bring peace cannot be wished away. For
me, I’m ready to accommodate everybody. Whatever they
want we can sit down and talk.”
Earlier before leading the prayers for the governor, the State
Missioner of the Ansarudeen Movement, Alhaji Liadi
Adebayo, called on politicians in the state to settle their
differences.
He canvassed for peaceful co-existence of the entire people
of the State, irrespective of their political differences.
The Cleric urged residents to live together in harmony as
politics was not supposed to be a do or die affair.

Xenophobic: Motor dealer Shops set ablaze, looted as xenophobic attacks spread in South Africa

Xenophobic attacks spread to Johannesburg 02:51
Story highlights
Attacks against immigrant businesses started in Durban
The attacks have left six people dead
Johannesburg (CNN)South African police fired rubber bullets
Friday to disperse crowds setting immigrant businesses ablaze
as attacks against foreigners spread to Johannesburg.
Chanting and singing, machete-armed residents burned down
shops owned by foreigners, including a Nigerian dealership in
the nation's largest city.
Immigrants carrying bricks accused police of not doing enough
to protect them as businesses smoldered.
Six people killed
Violence targeting immigrant shops started recently in the port
city of Durban, where two foreigners and three South Africans
were killed. Residents have accused African immigrants of
taking their jobs and committing crimes. The unemployment
rate in South Africa is 25%, according to government figures.
A sixth death occurred Wednesday. The body of a 58-year-old
foreign national was found in Verulam town, where a mob
attacked the man at his home. He fled and died of his injuries
near his home, South African police said.
At least 112 people have been arrested throughout KwaZulu-
Natal Province for various offenses related to the violence,
police said.
Social and economic issues
President Jacob Zuma said his government is addressing social
and economic issues brought up by citizens. He said
immigrants contribute to the nation's economy while others
bring scarce skills.
"While some foreign nationals have been arrested for various
crimes, it is misleading and wrong to label or regard all foreign
nationals as being involved in crime in the country," Zuma said.
As the violence spread to other cities, terrified immigrants
sought a resolution. Others fled, taking refuge at police stations
in major cities.
"They are using this as scapegoats," said Jean-Pierre Lukamba,
an immigrant from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
"Every day, migrants are living in this fire. It's not just attacks.
It's institutionalized xenophobia. The government must do
something. Those people aren't just mad for no reason. They
want electricity, they want jobs, they want water."
'They don't understand the history of Africa'
Lukamba said he's part of an organization trying to negotiate
between the two sides.
"They don't understand the history of Africa; if they do, they
would know each of us, we are one," he said.
Thousands fled to temporary shelters, with aid group Gift of the
Givers saying about 8,500 people are hiding in refugee centers
or police stations this week because of the violence. The
number did not include those who have moved in with friends
or relatives.
The aid group said it has a facility in Johannesburg to help
those who might need shelter.
"We are preparing aid packages for those who may journey
onwards to their home countries," it said.
Police ordered to work around the clock
The violence spread from Durban to Johannesburg even though
Zuma has condemned the attacks and appealed for calm.
"No amount of frustration or anger can ever justify the attacks
on foreign nationals and the looting of their shops," he said.
"The attacks violate all the values that South Africa embodies,
especially the respect for human life."
Zuma said he has ordered police to work around the clock to
protect citizens and immigrants, and arrest the perpetrators.
In Mozambique, the South African energy and chemical giant
Sasol was temporarily returning about 340 South African
nationals to South Africa "as a precautionary measure," Sasol
spokesman Alex Anderson said.
Mozambican employees of Sasol service providers have voiced
concern about reported violence against Mozambicans and
other foreign nationals in South Africa and protested the
presence of South African employees in Mozambique.
"We have had no cases of violence at our sites and the
situation remains calm," Anderson said in a statement.
In the past, Johannesburg has been the epicenter of anti-
immigrant tensions.
In 2008, dozens were killed in attacks in the poorest areas of
Johannesburg. Most of the victims were Zimbabweans who had
fled repression and dire economic circumstances. In those
attacks, police arrested more than 200 people on various
charges, including rape, murder, robbery and theft.

Xenophobic Attack: FG Begins Evacuation Of Nigerians From South Africa Monday

As the Xenophobic attack on foreigners
including Nigerians continues unabated in
South Africa,the Nigerian High Commission
in Pretoria has stated that evacuation of
Nigerians in the hostile country will begin
on Monday, 20th April.
The development is a fall out of the
xenophobic attacks being meted out by South
Africans against other African nationals in
their country, including Nigerians.
Leadership learnt from a press statement
emanating from the office of the Commission
in Pretoria to that effect.
The statement said that  Nigerians who feel
endangered, and do not have the fare back
home to quickly make themselves available
for evacuation.
The statement read in parts: “as from
Monday 20th of April 2015, the process of
evacuating Nigerians from South Africa will
begin as directed by the Federal Government
of Nigeria due to the ongoing Xenophobic
attack on black foreign nationals in the
Republic of South Africa.
“To that effect an evacuation register will be
open at the High Commission in Pretoria for
Nigerians intending to return to Nigeria but
cannot afford flight tickets.

Xenophobia: Ali Baba urges FG to close South African companies in Nigeria

Acclaimed comedy King, Ali Baba has joined
other celebrities condemning the ongoing
xenophobic attacks in South Africa. The
veteran commedian had in his own reaction
advised the Nigerian governmnet to do the
needful in order to check the excesses of
their brother country, South Africa. He
advised that all South African compnies in
Nigeria must be made to close shops and
leave the country if nothing is done to stop
the attacks.
In a post on twitter, Ali Baba said if after 48
hours untimatum by the governmnet to
South Africa, the xenophobia issue is not
addressed, then his suggested action must be
taken. In the post, he wrote“SERIOUSLY, OUR
GOVT SHLD GIVE THE S/AFRICAN GOVT
48HRS & IF THE GOVT MAKES NO AMENDS,
LET US ASK, MTN, DSTV, BANKS, SHOPRITE
TO CLOSE SHOP,” he said.

Xenophobia : We Won't Apologise, Foreigners Are Not Welcome - South African King Replies

King Goodwill Zwelithini stands by his view that
foreigners should go back to their home countries.
KING Goodwill Zwelithini meant each and every word
when he said foreigners must pack their bags and get
out of South Africa.
So said Zwelithini’s spokesman, Prince Thulani Zulu,
who told Daily Sun yesterday the king has nothing to be
sorry for.
The Zulu king’s outburst came on Saturday during his
speech at a moral regeneration event in Pongola,
northern KZN.
In the presence of both Police Minister Nathi Nhleko and
provincial MEC Willies Mchunu, the king was reported to
have told the gathering that it was time foreigners were
told to return to their countries.
The king accused them of messing up the country’s
towns by hanging their fake clothing brands on the
streets.
“Now when you walk down the street you can’t
recognise a shop you used to know because it has been
taken over by foreigners who mess it up by hanging up
rags,” the king said.
His remarks were widely condemned as encouraging
hatred towards foreigners, which may result in more
violent behaviour towards them.
But Prince Thulani said the king won’t apologise
because he stood by what he said.
“I think the people who’re complaining are
misinterpreting his speech.
“He didn’t say foreigners must be attacked or harassed.
“The king was talking about foreigners who are here
illegally.
“Some are involved in serious crimes like drug and
human trafficking.
“We don’t need such people in our country so the king is
right,” said Zulu.
The king’s speech has been strongly criticised for
fuelling hatred against foreigners by the Somali
Association of South Africa and the Congolese Solidarity
Campaign.
The provincial government distanced itself from the
king’s speech. It said it was guided by the Constitution,
which guarantees human rights for all in SA.

Nigerian Customs Release Obasanjo’s Autobiography , My Watch

The Nigeria Customs Service on Thursday said that it had
released former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s
autobiography titled, My Watch.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the NCS
Comptroller-General, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, made the
disclosure to newsmen when he inaugurated two new patrol
boats of the service in Lagos.
Abdullahi said that the container was released following the
vacation of an FCT High Court order restraining the former
President from publishing, printing or offering for sale, his
autobiography titled, “My Watch’’ on Tuesday.
“Customs got the initial order of the court to stop the
container and now that the court asks us to release the
container, so be it,” he said.
Justice Valentine Ashi had ordered the release of the books
which had been in the custody of customs.
Ashi, in a ruling, upheld the argument by Obasanjo’s
counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), that the court was misled into
granting the orders on December 5 and Decemeber10, 2014.
The court had granted the orders on December 5, 2014,
restraining Obasanjo from publishing his book in the country
pending the determination of the suit filed against him by a
chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Buruji Kashamu.
Despite the December 5 order, Obasanjo proceeded to launch
the book on December 9 in Lagos, a development that
prompted the court to make the orders of December 10.
Ashi also restrained the comptroller-general from charging
demurrage on copies of the book already confiscated.
Abdullahi described the new patrol boats acquired by the
service as equipment needed to perform its exemplary
functions in line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s
transformation agenda for the service to excel.
He said it took two years to build the boats, adding that the
Customs supervised the construction of the boats to meet it
specification.
“We have two boats for now. We will watch their performance
and see if there is need to have more.
“With the performance of the boats government will not
hesitate to give us more money to buy more,” he said.
He recalled that one of the boats was named after nine
customs officers killed some years ago by smugglers of
petrol on the high sea while they were on official duty.
“It is a bad memory. Nine of my officers were really killed on
the high sea by smugglers who were carrying petrol

Police Arrested For Intentionally Infecting His Gir’lfriend With HIV

A cop who was fired from two Florida police departments has
now been arrested for knowingly infecting his girlfr’iend with
HIV.
The longtime girlf’riend of officer Dexter Richardson, 47, says
he was aware of his status but never told her.
On Tuesday, August 5, 2014 Richardson was charged with
having uninformed HIV interc;οurse.
In May the woman went to police with the accusations, telling
police that she’d been infected by Richardson. She said that
initially, Richardson denied having HIV but later admitted he’d
been living with the disease for around a decade.
Investigators confirm that Richardson was aware that he’d
been infected but never told his girlfriend.
Richardson has a history in Florida law enforcement, having
been fired from two departments in his career. Richardson was
let go from Pompano Beach for being involved in at least eight
unjustified accidents, and while working for the Riviera Beach
Police Department, he was let go for giving information to an
officer who was under investigation.
Richardson was also arrested for getting into a fight at a gas
station when a clerk refused to allow him to use the bathroom.
Police suspect that Richardson’s girlfriend may not be the only
woman who the former cop had sεx with while infected with
HIV.
Richardson was arrested by police on Sunday, August 3, 2014
and later released on bond.
Sadly, Richardson is the second officer from Palm Beach
County to be accused of knowingly spreading HIV.
A reporter from the Palm Beach Post was unsuccessful in
reaching Richardson and his attorney.
Anyone else who has had sεx with Richardson is advised to
contact Riviera Beach police at (561) 845-4123 and request to
speak to the detective assigned to the Dexter Richardson case.

OUCH!!! Lai Mohammed Offers PDP’s Metuh Six-Week Crash Course On His New Role As An Opposition Spokesperson

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has denied having any
hand in the crumbling of the PDP, as alleged by the party’s
National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh, while offering him,
(Metuh) a free, six-week crash course on his new role as the
opposition spokesman.
Reacting to the allegation by Mr. Metuh that the APC has
been working to destabilize the PDP, the party said in a
statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed,
in Abuja on Friday, that during the training, Mr. Metuh will be
given free lessons by his APC counterpart, in the spirit of
cooperation and for the advancement of the nation’s
democracy.
”Metuh will need the training to effectively carry out his new,
tough task. It is now obvious that he needs to understand
that for him to succeed in his new role, he must be credible,
empirical, more sophisticated in language use and very
passionate, in addition to being able to operate on a lean or
zero budget,” it said.
APC said it is ludicrous, to say the least, for anyone to
suggest that the APC is seeking to destabilize the PDP,
when the erstwhile ruling party has done such a great job of
crumbling under its own weight, having gorged on the
commonwealth.
”Really, it beggars belief to say that the APC is seeking to
lure away members of the PDP’s NEC with ‘phantom
promises and threats’, with a view to destabilizing the party,
when everyone knows the rate at which PDP stalwarts have
been rushing to jump off the sinking ship called the PDP
before it finally tips over.
”Our National Chairman and our President-elect have even
spoken out publicly on this issue, encouraging the eager
PDP defectors to stay back in their party so they can provide
a formidable opposition to the new ruling party. How then
can anyone accuse the APC of either luring away PDP
members or seeking to destabilize a party that has done
itself in?” the party queried.
It advised Mr. Metuh to take a little time off so he can
engage in some introspection, against the backdrop of the
total repudiation by Nigerians of the brand of politics that
his party, the PDP, played in its days as the ruling party.
”There is no doubt that Metuh is in a hurry to do his work as
an opposition spokesman. He should not worry. He should
save his energy, because he would need it, in addition to the
crash course which has been offered to him freely, if he is to
function effectively in his new role. Having been in
opposition for so long, we can tell Metuh that it is not a
cakewalk.
”Lies by themselves never travel far enough for the truth not
to catch up with them, as the PDP must have now realized
when its strategy of muckraking, distortion of facts and
blatant falsehood – under the guise of electioneering
campaign – failed to turn the tide in its favour during the
last elections. But it seems the lead actors in that failed
strategy, Metuh included, have not yet learnt their lessons,
hence they have continued to engage in their despicable
pastime.
”The APC has no time to waste on luring away members of
the PDP. We have our hands full as we seek to clear the
mess that the PDP has made of Nigeria and the state of
hopelessness to which its 16-year rule has plunged the
citizens. Because Nigerians wanted change, they voted for
our party. How then can the party of change allow itself to
become populated by the same folks whom Nigerians have
rejected?” APC said.

Strange Ondo Killer Disease Linked To Exhumed Corpse (Report)

All 14 deaths recorded in Ode Irele, Ondo state, from a
“strange” ailment are directly connected to an exhumed
corpse in the community, Kayode Akinmade, the Ondo state
commissioner for information and strategy, has said.
247NN had reported that the unidentified disease is
ravaging the Ode-Irele community in Ondo State and has left
28 people dead in the past three days.
Speaking with TheCable , Akinmade said the diseases was
not the same as Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), although it had
managed to kill its victims in less than 24 hours.
“The symptoms were not that of Ebola; it’s a 24-hour attack
that would make the victim to have headache, be
unconscious, then after 24 hours, the person is gone. That
one cannot be Ebola,” he said. “All the necessary facility that
government should provide, government has done that. We
have moved all the ambulances and everything.”
He added that although there were claims that as many as 34
people had died, only 14 people had fallen victim of the
strange disease. “Available data do not indicate that 34
people have died – only 14,”he said. “And from what we got,
the 14 had personal contacts with those people who came to
exhume the corpse that led to this epidemic.”
He added that the state commissioner for health, Dayo
Akinyanju would “in the next couple of hours, make a state
wide broadcast” to update Nigerians on the state of the
disease. Soji Gbadebo, the permanent secretary (protocol), in
the state who also spoke with TheCable, corroborated
Akinmade’s position.
“There is a general allusion that there was a – there was
something buried there (Ode Irele) and some people went
there to exhume the thing, and sold it to this English
people,” Gbadebo said.
“Only those who were directly involved have been affected by
this epidemic. “Meanwhile, government has sent powerful
health team there to unravel the mystery, so, for now, we
may not know what actually happened until a scientific
report unfolds it.” Speaking anonymously, a resident said the
disease had claimed 34 lives although the newspapers
reported just 12.
On Thursday, the strange ailment was reported to have
claimed 12 lives in Ode-Irele, a community in Irele local
government area of the state. The disease is characterised
with headache in victims, then loss of sight, and finally
death, all in a few hours.
The state government has said it is using equipment bought
for the prevention and control of Ebola virus disease in the
state to isolate the victims and control the unknown
outbreak. Samples from the victims have been collected and
sent to laboratories for investigation, with the World Health
Organisation (WHO) already in the know.

APC Zones Senate President To North Central As Speaker Will Emerge From North East

The national leaders and national caucus of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) have officially zoned the office
of the Senate President in the 8th Senate to the North central
geo-political zone, while the Speaker of the House of
Representatives was zoned to the North-east geo-political
zone.
A source at the APC meeting which lasted till the wee-hours
of Friday told THISDAY that the party leaders accepted in
principle a prototype office sharing formula that would
accommodate all vested interests within the party.
The source said: “After deft negotiations, the leaders agreed
to cede the position of the Senate President to the North-
central and that of the Speaker of the House of
Representatives to the North-east. They also endorsed a
zoning arrangement that would see the South-west
producing the Deputy Senate President and South-south,
Deputy Speaker.”
With the agreement yesterday, the current minority leader in
the Senate, George Akume from Benue State and Senator
Bukola Saraki from Kwara State are expected to engage each
other in a fierce contest for the Senate Presidency.
It was learnt that the position of the Speaker was earlier
allotted to the South-west but had to be moved to North-
east following a strong lobby by leaders from the zone who
argued that such arrangement was necessary to compensate
them for the massive support for the party during the
election.
Apart from the sharing arrangement for the principal
positions, the APC meeting which had personalities like the
former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu and some governors in
attendance also considered the issue of ministerial
appointments.
Also, the APC leaders zoned the office of the Chairman of its
Board of Trustees (BoT) to Adamawa State, where the former
Vice President Atiku Abubakar is set to clinch the position
that was hitherto held by the former governor of Osun State
and former national chairman of the party, Bisi Akande.
The source hinted further that the party zoned the office of
the Majority Leader of the Senate to the South-west.
However, South-east did not get any position in the current
allocation but according to a top notch APC member, the
zone will be compensated by other appointments to ensure
some balance and equity. In all the eight senatorial seats in
the zone, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all the
seats. This has made it impossible for the zone to aspire for
any principal office in the senate.
The same thing happened in the zone for the House of
Representatives. No single member of the House of
Representatives from the zone is from the APC. PDP won all
the National Assembly seats in both arms of the National
Assembly. In fact, in the Presidential Election, the APC did
not score up to 15 percent in any of the states in the
southeast.
Another source at the Abuja meeting said the APC chieftains
could not however conclude deliberations on the ministerial
appointments as it was decided that stakeholders in the
states and zonal levels should go back to the areas to hold
consultations on the matter.
It was resolved that the state chapters of the party would
each nominate three persons for ministerial consideration
and are to submit same to the party through the Vice
Chairmen and Deputy National Chairmen on or before
Tuesday next week.
The source added that another meeting of the party
leadership is scheduled to hold on Tuesday where they hope
to harmonize issues and finalize discussions on the
recommendations to be presented to the National Executive
Committees (NEC) of the party.
“While the President- elect, General Muhammadu Buhari had
asked the party to discuss the issue of ministerial
appointments and to advise him as appropriate, he has
insisted on retaining the transition committee list. Buhari
had in choosing members of the transition committee made
sure that each of them is tested expert in the various sectors
where they will serve. He was said to be very conscious of
their level of integrity and honesty,” added the source.
A top member of the APC who spoken in anonymity, said:
“All the positions said to have been shared are yet to be
firmed. Nothing can be confirmed until the final meeting next
week.” He advised that all reports about sharing of positions
should be disregarded until next week when a final decision
would be taken.

Why Abdulsalami Abubakar Led Alison- Madueke To Beg President Jonathan [MUST READ Investigation]

A former military Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar
(retd.), on Thursday led the Minister of Petroleum Resources,
Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, to a closed-door meeting to
beg President Goodluck Jonathan.
Sources tell NewsWireNGR that the President had refused to
see the one time powerful minsters in his cabinet, shortly
after conceding defeat, Mrs Madueke was at the Villa to meet
the President over the outcome of the Elections but was
turned back.
“The President on hearing it was the Petroleum Minister that
was visiting, basically screamed at the security agencies not
to allow her in, to everyones surprise, this is one minister
you don’t turn away her visits at the Villa”, the anonymous
source at the Presidency said.
Diezani had been in the news lately when she suddenly
disappeared from the public and was rumoured to have
travelled abroad for undisclosed reason. “After the shocker
she got from President Jonathan, it led to her trip abroad,
some her aides says the BCA Reports on her seeking asylum
was actually correct seeing as Jonathan was no longer on
her side”.
An online media ran the report that she had gone in search
of asylum but that so far six countries had denied her such
request.
The NNPC however refuted the claim. It said in a statement
Wednesday that the minister had travelled abroad to rest and
would be back this week.
Reports say that the oil minister has been ‘restless’ since
General Muhammadu Buhari defeated President Jonathan in
the general election and is billed to take office on May 29,
but more importantly, she’s been confused why President
Jonathan doesn’t want to see her.
A photograph of the minister during her visit to
Abdulsalami’s house in Minna recently went viral on the
social media.
It was alleged that she went to seek for his intervention,
after Jonathan asked he didn’t want to see her only days
after the Presidential elections.
Another close aide of the current administration of President
Jonathan tells NewsWireNGR on condition that his name is
not mentioned that “Diezani contributed to the failure of
Jonathan during the elections, her arrogance with almost
everyone that matters didn’t help”.
“While other ministers were trying to mend fences to see
that the President is in the good books of those aggrieved
with the administration, the Petroleum Minister created a
‘god complex’ around herself”.
The source narrates to us what really transpired, he said
Diezani is one of those that caused the final face-off
between Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
According to our sources, “Obasanjo had sent the former
NNPC GMD, Funsho Kupolokun, to her office for a meeting,
she did not only keep the man waiting for more than four
hours, she went on to ask her aides to send him out that
she’s too busy”.
According to our insiders account, that action angered the
former President who then called Jonathan to express his
displeasure at the way his Funsho was treated by one of his
ministers.
“I can go on and on to name the atrocities Diezani
committed, at some point she saw herself as the President of
Nigeria, if you read Obasanjo’s book my watch, he stated it
clearly. he added.
Alison-Madueke arrived the Presidential Villa, Abuja, last
night for the meeting to beg Mr President, about three
minutes after Abubakar made his way into the President’s
office.
Less than 30 minutes after both of them entered the
President’s office, Abubakar emerged, leaving Alison-
Madueke behind.
“Sources insists that if Abdulsalami hadn’t carried her along
to the Presidential Villa, there is possibly no way President
would have want to set his eyes on her again”.
Another member of the ruling PDP when questioned about
the role of the Petroleum Minister noted, “Diezani did not
release money for anything, she kept if for herself, even
money that is normally taken from leakages to fund
campaigns, she allowed the party to go on without funds”.
“If you noticed even up until when the elections where
postponed, PDP cordinators weren’t having money to fund
states to run the President’s campaign, she ignores everyone
including the National chairman”.
Although, when State House correspondents asked the
former Head of State for the purpose of his visit, the former
military leader said it was in continuation of his job as the
chairman of the National Peace Committee for the 2015
General Elections.
“As the chairman of the peace committee, there is always
interaction between the incoming president and President
Jonathan, in order to ensure that the peace we have been
able to get is sustained.
“So naturally, I am here to touch base with him and also to
give him a report of what the committee has been doing,” he
said.
When confronted with the issue of his recent meeting with
the minister and the fact that they entered the President’s
office almost the same time, Abubakar said those reading
meanings into the visit were just being mischievous.
He said he had met many times with Alison-Madueke and
other ministers, wondering why the latest meeting became
an issue.
He said, “I think people are just trying to be mischievous, I
have been meeting with a lot of people and a lot of ministers
in the course of this transition. So there is nothing strange
in me meeting with anybody.
Abubakar said he had continued to meet Jonathan and the
President-elect for the transition to go on smoothly and
maintain the peace.
On what will become of her after Jonathan, another member
of the ruling party said, “She has started talking to the APC
to refund some of the money, before the elections, she had
spoken to Bukola Saraki and now Abdulsalami is her
mediator but i doubt President Jonathan will be defending
her from the next administration.

Niger Delta Militant Leader Ateke Has A Message For Buhari

Ex-militant and leader of the Niger Delta Vigilante (NDV),
Ateke Tom, has said former militant leaders in the Niger
Delta region are ready to work with the President-Elect,
General Muhammadu Buhari.
Ateke, who disclosed this while speaking in pidgin english to
newsmen at Okochiri in Rivers State, urged Gen. Buhari to
invite leaders of genuine militant camps to discuss on how to
move the region forward.
In his words, “I am here to congratulate Buhari for his
victory. We will want good leadership; we thank God that
Buhari is now our President and we pray God Almighty to
give him wisdom to rule our country. Since Buhari is now
our President, we want him to meet with the core leaders of
the Niger Delta struggle; I mean the real leaders in the
struggle.
“He should call the real leaders and talk to them. Let us
discuss on our needs. He should also not forget the Amnesty
Programme, because we know what we fought for and that
was why they gave us Amnesty. We did not get the Amnesty
Programme from the backyard. So, let him keep to the
programme. Let the Amnesty Programme function well and
we will like it. We are ready to work with Buhari.”
The former militant leader said none of the former agitators
in the region will go back to the creeks.
Ateke said, “Some people are saying they want to go back to
the creek, or they want to blow up pipelines; no, I, Ateke Tom
will not be part of that, we don’t need all those things and
nobody will go back to the creeks. I have a say in the Niger
Delta and I am one of the top fighters; so nobody will go back
to the creeks. I advice the youths not to follow anybody back
to the creeks.
“We should not say because there is change of government
and Buhari is now the President, and somebody wants to go
back to the creeks; what are you going there to do? So, let
nobody follow anybody to the creeks. What we want is that
let Buhari meet us and treat us well
