She was being behind the dissappearance of toddlers Raphael
and Michael Esharegaran who were kidnapped from their
home in Magodo shortly after their parents employed a
nanny for them last year. She kidnapped the boys and
released them after a sum of N2.5m was paid by the
Esharegaran's family.

Niger Delta Militant Leader Ateke Has A Message For Buhari

Ex-militant and leader of the Niger Delta Vigilante (NDV),
Ateke Tom, has said former militant leaders in the Niger
Delta region are ready to work with the President-Elect,
General Muhammadu Buhari.
Ateke, who disclosed this while speaking in pidgin english to
newsmen at Okochiri in Rivers State, urged Gen. Buhari to
invite leaders of genuine militant camps to discuss on how to
move the region forward.
In his words, “I am here to congratulate Buhari for his
victory. We will want good leadership; we thank God that
Buhari is now our President and we pray God Almighty to
give him wisdom to rule our country. Since Buhari is now
our President, we want him to meet with the core leaders of
the Niger Delta struggle; I mean the real leaders in the
struggle.
“He should call the real leaders and talk to them. Let us
discuss on our needs. He should also not forget the Amnesty
Programme, because we know what we fought for and that
was why they gave us Amnesty. We did not get the Amnesty
Programme from the backyard. So, let him keep to the
programme. Let the Amnesty Programme function well and
we will like it. We are ready to work with Buhari.”
The former militant leader said none of the former agitators
in the region will go back to the creeks.
Ateke said, “Some people are saying they want to go back to
the creek, or they want to blow up pipelines; no, I, Ateke Tom
will not be part of that, we don’t need all those things and
nobody will go back to the creeks. I have a say in the Niger
Delta and I am one of the top fighters; so nobody will go back
to the creeks. I advice the youths not to follow anybody back
to the creeks.
“We should not say because there is change of government
and Buhari is now the President, and somebody wants to go
back to the creeks; what are you going there to do? So, let
nobody follow anybody to the creeks. What we want is that
let Buhari meet us and treat us well

Daredevil robbers in shootout with police in Osun

Three suspected armed robbers met their Waterloo in Osogbo,
Osun State, as they died after sustaining bullet wounds during
a shootout with the operatives of Special-Anti Robbery Squad
(SARS) in the early hours of Friday.
Saturday Tribune gathered that the suspects, who came in an
unregistered Lexus car for a robbery operation, went to Oke
Baale area of Osogbo, opposite Osun State Broadcasting
Corporation (OSBC), to attack the residents at about 2.00 a.m.
Some of the residents, it was learnt, sent a distress call to the
officer in charge of SARS in Osun State Police Command, DSP
Adekunle Omoyele, and he was said to have led a team of
operatives to the scene immediately.
Saturday Tribune further gathered that on getting to the scene,
the policemen learnt that the armed robbers had robbed one
Alhaja Ganiyat Kolapo of her personal belongings while the
hoodlums also went away with her Toyota Camry car with
registration number LND 847 AJ.
Omoyele and his team reportedly chased the armed robbers
towards Ibokun road. The robbers reportedly abandoned the
Toyota Camry and fled into the bush.
Meanwhile, the SARS men were said to have started combing a
nearby bush when they noticed an oncoming bus followed by a
car which model was later discovered to be Lexus.
A police source who craved anonymity told Saturday Tribune
that as SARS operatives waved the bus driver to a stop, the
driver of the Lexus car made an attempt to overtake the bus
and fired sporadically at the police in order to escape.
Undeterred, the policemen pursued the hoodlums towards
Ibokun road and got close to them at a spot close to Egbeda
Village where the hoodlums reportedly stopped and engaged
the SARS operatives in a gun battle, as a result of which three
of them sustained bullet wounds and died.
Saturday Tribune learnt that the Toyota Camry belonging to
their victim and the unregistered Lexus for the robbery were
recovered by the police. One of them was said to have escaped
with bullet wounds and arms used by the robbers.
When the Lexus was searched, it was gathered that a laptop,
digger, knife, charms, assorted phones, three ATM cards, one
cut-to-size double barrel gun, seven live cartridges, five
expended cartridge shells, and some rough naira notes totaling
about N36,000, as well as the driver’s licence belonging to their
victim were recovered. The victim was said to have identified
the corpses as those of the hoodlums who came to rob her.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun
State Police Command, DSP Folasade Odoro, confirmed the
incident, saying that the corpses had been deposited at the
State Hospital Osogbo mortuary for autopsy. She added that
efforts were on to get the fleeing hoodlums.
One of the victims, Alhaja Kolapo, told Saturday Tribune that
two of the hoodlums gained entry into her apartment after
cutting the net and burglar proof on one of the windows. “One
of them entered and went to the kitchen door to open it for the
second robber.
“They did not bother to switch on the light as they made use of
a torch light with strong halogen bulb which they brought.
They ransacked the house and picked all they wanted. They
saw the key of the Camry and took it also,” she narrated.
Another victim, Kareem Adebayo, said the armed robbers also
visited him and his younger brother before going to Kolapo’s
house. He said they collected the cash found with him and tied
him with a rope at the backyard.
“They came into my house through the window which burglar
proof was cut. They demanded for money and I gave them
N40,000. They saw my car key, took it and demanded for my
ATM card. They said they would take me to an ATM to withdraw
the N47,000 they saw as my account balance. I told them the
ATM card was in the car.
“They were searching the car for the ATM card when they found
the N150,000 I kept there. They started beating me, saying that
I lied that I didn’t have money. One of them also wanted to rape
my wife and when she told him that she was pregnant, he still
wanted to go ahead and had already worn his shirt inside out.
“She was saved because by then, my brother had been able to
free himself and he jumped over the fence to alert neighbours.
When the neighbours were coming, the hoodlums lay flat on
the ground, and as one of the neighbours, one Owolabi
Mohammed, got to where they lay, one of the armed robbers
stood and hit his head with a digger, resulting in a deep gash.
That was how they ran away with my money and my car key,”
Adebayo also said.
The two victims praised the efforts of the SARS in responding
promptly. Mr Adebayo said he was already on his way to a
network service provider to retrieve his line when he received
information that he should come to SARS to check some of the
items found with the dead hoodlums and identify them.
Alhaja Kolapo also told Saturday Tribune that “I am highly
impressed with the immediate response of the police. I am
happy that they recovered the items taken from me and got my
tormentors

Supreme Court Reaffirms Fayose As Ekiti Governor

The Supreme Court today, April 14 has affirmed the election
of Ayo Fayose as the governor of Ekiti State, dismissing a
suit that sought to nullify the 2014 polls.
Mr. Fayose’s election was challenged by the All
Progressives Congress, APC, whose candidate in the
election, Kayode Fayemi, lost to Mr. Fayose.
The governor is currently facing an attempt by state
lawmakers to impeach him.
Ahead of the Supreme Court ruling, Mr. Fayose, in a state-
wide broadcast on Monday asked the people of the state to
maintain the peace and pursue their businesses and lawful
duties normally.
He credited the success of his Peoples Democratic Party in
Saturday’s House of Assembly election to Ekiti residents and
thanked them accordingly.
Mr. Fayose said the victory confirmed that he had the
genuine support of the people.
The governor said he would be vindicated at the end of the
day and “triumph over whatever plot being hatched to
truncate,” his tenure.
The APC had petitioned the Ekiti Governorship Election
Tribunal challenging the victory of Mr. Fayose in the
governorship election.
The Tribunal, on December 19, 2014, upheld Mr. Fayose’s
victory and dismissed the APC’s petition for “lack of merit”.
Dissatisfied with the verdict, the APC went to the Court of
Appeal, on the grounds that Mr. Fayose was not eligible to
contest the governorship election since he had been
impeached on October 16, 2006 during his first tenure as
governor.
The APC also alleged that the governor forged his academic
credentials and breached the Code of Conduct rules.
On February 16, a five-member Appeal Court panel, led by
Justice Abdul Aboki, upheld the judgment of the Election
Tribunal and affirmed Mr. Fayose as winner of the June 21,
2014 poll.
The Appeal Court, however, upheld APC’s complaints that
the military was used to harass and intimidate its supporters
and leaders during the polls.
The APC, not satisfied with the judgment, went to the
Supreme Court.
The court on Tuesday upheld Mr. Fayose’s election, the
News Agency of Nigeria reported.
However, details of the ruling are yet unclear.

PDP Guber Candidate Removes Transformer He Donated To Community After Losing Election

The aftermath of March 28 and April
11 polls for the people of Sabo
community in Ibadan is not something
pleasant as they woke up on a
Sunday morning only to discover a
Transformer donated to the
community few days ago by the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
governorship candidate, Senator
Teslim Folarin, being carted away by
some aides of the former Senate
Leader.
The PDP governorship candidate who
came fourth in the Oyo State
Gubernatorial election had reportedly
conceded defeat on Saturday night
apparently having seen the signals
that the incoming polls result did not
favour him.
However, the alarm raised by
members of the Sabo community on
sighting those removing the
Transformer in the early hours of
Sunday did not move the perpetrators
who eventually removed the
transformer to an unknown place.

12 Top Corruption Cases in Nigeria

1. N195 Billion Maina Pension Scam
It is believed that Alhaji Maina misappropriated billions of
naira worth of pension funds, which he claimed to have
recovered from pension thieves. The senate committee
probing pension funds management accused him of mopping
up pension funds from banks and depositing the money in
his private accounts. According to the committee, this
mopping of such funds had made it impossible to pay
thousands of pensioners across the country for months.
When he was summoned to appear and clear the air on the
committee’s findings, Alhaji Maina instituted a N1.5bn case
against the senate and the inspector general of police. Things
came to a head last week when the senate passed a resolution
asking the presidency to sack Alhaji Maina within two days
or face its wrath. Although the presidency had initially
insisted that only the head of service could sack Maina, it
subsequently changed its tone and ordered that disciplinary
action should be taken against him for absconding from his
duty post without permission.
Punishment: None fled Nigeria.
2. Kerosene Subsidy Scam
The Former Governor of the Central bank and Now Emir of
Kano Mr Sanusi had shown that the kerosene subsidy was
eliminated in 2009 by a directive of the late president Umaru
Yar’Adua. Further evidence, in the form of official data from
across Nigeria, shows that nowhere in the country is
kerosene sold at a subsidised rate. It is bought by the NNPC
at N150, sold to marketers at N40-N50, but retails at N170-
N250. Mr Sanusi estimates that $100m goes astray this way
each month.
“The margin of 300-500 per cent over purchase price is
economic rent, which never got to the man on the street. In
dollar terms every vessel of kerosene imported by NNPC with
federation money cost about $30m and it was sold at $10 or
$11m generating rent of $20m per vessel to the syndicate,” he
writes.
It was learnt that since the national assembly members
concluded their investigations, no officials of the NNPC or the
marketers have been sanctioned, thus emboldening them to
continue to import kerosene and allocate to themselves and
their cronies.
Apparently due to alleged pecuniary benefits, the NNPC has
continued to import kerosene and allocate in questionable
circumstances to individuals and groups at the ex-depot price
of N40.90.
But rather than selling the product at the subsidised price of
N50 per litre at filling stations, the beneficiaries of these
allocations sell the product to middlemen at N95 or N100 per
litre at the gates of the depots.
These middlemen, it was learnt, truck the product to the
filling stations and sell between N130 and N150 per litre.
It was alleged that marketers give some of their allocations to
some top PPMC officials to ensure that they turn blind eye to
the scam.
The failure of the NNPC to implement a presidential directive
removing subsidy from kerosene has fuelled suspicion among
the stakeholders.
Punishment: None.
3. $6bn Fuel Subsidy Scam
Nigeria’s parliament has discussed a report said to reveal
that $6bn (£4bn) has been defrauded from the fuel subsidy
fund in the past two years.
The debate, which was televised live, made official findings
that have been widely leaked in recent days.
The fuel sector probe was set up in the wake of angry
nationwide protests in January after the government tried to
remove a fuel subsidy.
Nigeria is a major oil producer but has to import most of its
fuel.
Notable members of the PDP or their families were involved
in the scam like Mamman Ali and Mahmud Tukur.
Punishment: Ongoing court cases, no convictions. House of
reps report tainted by Farouk Lawan bribery setup.
4. 123bn Naira Fraud – Stephen Oronsaye
A damning report by the Office of the Auditor-General of the
Federation has indicted a former Head of the Civil Service of
the Federation, Mr. Stephen Oronsaye, over an alleged
N123billion fraud perpetrated during his tenure, between
2009 and 2010.
The 169-page report, entitled “Special Audit of the Accounts
of the Civil Pensions,” according to an online news medium,
Premium Times, found Oronsaye guilty of allegedly presiding
over the looting of the nation’s resources during his tenure.
The audit by the auditor-general arose from the work of a
Special Audit Team constituted by the federal government in
May 2011 to conduct a comprehensive examination of the
accounts of the Civilian Pension Department domiciled in the
Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The audit, which covered the period 2005 to 2010, uncovered
monumental financial irregularities, opaque transactions,
irregular and abnormal running costs, and outright stealing
and kick backs said to have reached its zenith during the 18
months that Oronsaye served as Head of Service.
But no action has been taken to bring all those indicted to
book.
Punishment: No action taken.
5. Police Pension Fund Fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
arraigned the ex-permanent secretary in the Ministry of
Niger Delta Affairs, now a director in the Police Pension
Office, Atiku Abubakar Kigo; the chief accountant, Mrs.
Uzoma Cyril Attang, and four others before an Abuja high
court on an 18-count charge of conspiracy, breach of trust
and embezzlement of N32.8 billion police pension funds.
The six accused persons were docked before Justice Hussain
Baba to whom the case was reassigned following a
controversial judgement of the first trial judge, Justice
Abubakar Talba: he gave a light sentence to one of the
accused, John Yusuf, who pleaded guilty to a three-count
charge.
But Attang, who was arraigned by the EFCC for the first time
in connection with the alleged fraud, was granted N10million
bail and two sureties in like sum.
Those who were re-arraigned include Esai Dangabar, Atiku
Abubakar Kigo, Ahmed Inuwa Wada, Mrs Veronica Ulonma
Onyegbula, Sani Habila Zira, Christian Madubuike, and John
Yusuf who had been convicted.
Punishment: accused got a two years sentence or 750,000
fine. Paid 750,000.
6. Stella Oduah car purchase scandal
The committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to
probe the N255m bulletproof car scandal in the aviation
ministry has indicted the Minister, Ms. Stella Oduah.
It was gathered in Abuja that the report of the presidential
committee tallied with some findings of the House of
Representatives Committee on Aviation on the scandal.
In October, there were reports that with the approval of the
minister, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority purchased
two bulletproof BMW cars at an allegedly inflated rate of
N255m.
The development sparked a countrywide controversy with
many Nigerians and groups calling for her sacking.
Punishment: None.
7. NNPC missing $20billion naira
Even in a country where untold oil wealth disappears into
the pockets of the elite, the oil corruption scheme he was
investigating seemed outsize — and he threatened to lay it
bare at a meeting with Nigeria’s top bankers.
The whistleblower was none other than the governor of the
country’s central bank. Weeks later, however, he was out,
fired by Nigeria’s president in an episode that has shaken the
Nigerian economy, filled newspapers and airwaves here, and
even inspired a rare street demonstration.
The bankers were going to have to open their books, the
governor, Lamido Sanusi, warned them at the recent meeting.
He wanted to see where the money was going — $20 billion
from oil sales that, mysteriously, was not making its way to
the treasury, in a country that could soon be declared
Africa’s biggest economy and already attracts the most direct
foreign investment on the continent, according to the United
Nations.
Punishment: Whistle blower was fired. The FG ordered an
Audit of the NNPC. Audit report later indicts NNPC,
corporation to refund $1.48billion
8. $15 million in Private Jet Arms Scandal
A private jet that conveyed $9.3 million cash from Nigeria to
South Africa for an alleged arms deal between the two
countries, had Nigerian crew members, and passengers from
Israel and Austria.
Punishment: government claims involvement in scandal. No
further explanations to individuals on board. Blames US for
black market arms deal.
9. Crude Oil Theft Scandal
According to President Goodluck Jonathan, 300,000-400,000
barrels of oil per day, or more than 10% of all Nigeria’s
production, is being lost at a cost to the state and oil
companies of around £1bn a month – more than is spent on
education and the health of the nation’s 168 million people.
Not only is Nigerian oil theft helping to keep the world price
of oil high, it is causing corruption and social disorder, says
the president.
Punishment: None, ex militant given contract worth billions
to secure waterways. Rather than a decrease in oil theft, a
marked increase is seen.
10. Ekiti Gate
The audio recordings depict the meeting as being attended by
the eventual “winner” of the election, Governor Ayo Fayose
of Ekiti; Senator Iyiola Omisore; a man identified as
Honorable Abdulkareem; the Minister for Police Affairs Caleb
Olubolade; and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro who was at the
time the Minister of State for Defence. Mr. Chris Uba came to
Ekiti with huge stash of cash and soldiers from the East to
carry out the assignment.
The 37-minute recording details the conversation between
these men as they bribed Brigadier General Momoh with a
promotion for his assistance in carrying out election fraud in
Ekiti. In it, Obanikoro is clearly heard informing the group of
men, “[I] am not here for a tea party, am on special
assignment by the President.”
SaharaReporters further received credible intelligence that
President Goodluck Jonathan had instructed the Chief of
Defense Staff, Alex Badeh, to use the army in arresting and
intimidating opposition politicians before and during the
election. The audio recording provides exact details of the
plot, with the collaborators almost degenerating into physical
combat.
11. Mohammed Abacha N446 Billion case
The government had Charged Abacha to court on nine counts
of stealing against Mohammed in February 2014.
It had accused him of unlawfully receiving about N446.3bn
allegedly stolen from its coffers between 1995 and 1998.
But on Wednesday, the Attorney-General of the Federation
and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, asked Justice
Mamman Kolo of the FCT High Court to strike out the charges
on the grounds of “fresh facts” that just emerged concerning
the case.
He was silent on whether new charges would be filed against
Mohammed or not.
Efforts to arraign Mohammed on two previous occasions
were unsuccessful because of his repeated absence from
court.
But he was present in court on Wednesday when a private
prosecuting counsel, Daniel Enwelum, informed the court of
Adoke’s instruction to discontinue the case.
Applying to court for the withdrawal of the case, Enwelum
said, “I have been instructed by the AGF and Minister of
Justice to withdraw the charges as presently filed before this
court, because there are fresh facts and documents available
to him.
Punishment: None.
12. N7Billion Bribe to Christian Religious Leaders
On the 4th of February, The Director-General, Buhari
Presidential Campaign organisation, Governor Rotimi
Amaechi of Rivers State, accused some church leaders of
taking N7 billion in bribes from the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, to campaign against the presidential candidate of
All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari
(rtd).
Governor Amaechi, at the APC’s governorship campaign rally,
in Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, said
already, the religious leaders were allegedly distributing
leaflets all over that Buhari had plans to Islamize the country
if elected.
Amaechi called on the pastors to return the alleged bribe
collected from the PDP.
By the 19th of February, A Borno-based Pastor, Kallamu
Musa-Dikwa, said that the money that was given to pastors
by the President was actually N7bn and not N6bn as alleged
by Amaechi.
The PDP has since denied this.

I Was Not Given Campaign Funds – Doyin Okupe Releases Statement

Dr. Doyin Okupe, Special Assistant to President Jonathan on Public Affairs

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe has debunked rumours circulating social media that he received $100 million campaign funds from the presidency.

A statement signed by Okupe’s personal assistant Prince Deji Adeyanju, on Sunday, April 12, 2015 clearly states that Okupe was not part of the campaign organisation and as such was not given funds meant for the campaign.

The statement read:

Our attention has been drawn to a very misleading and false story circulating on social media about Dr. Doyin Okupe receiving about 100 million dollars from President Jonathan which he was suppose to have disbursed which they claimed he did not disburse to the appropriate groups. We wish to make the following clarifications and put the record straight:

1. President Jonathan is alive and he’s still a sitting president and the Commander in Chief. We can make this categorical statement that the president has never and he did not give Dr. Okupe any money for any group, person, association or political party for the purpose of this election.

2. Dr. Okupe was never a member of the Presidential Campaign Organization  and neither did he function as a member or play any role in this regard.

3. In his state of Ogun, Dr. Okupe was not the coordinator of the presidential campaign organization and was not in custody of any money for campaign and therefore, we wonder why anyone will even dream that Dr. Okupe received campaign funds for any group.

4. Therefore, without any fear of equivocation we say that the story that Dr. Okupe was given 100 million dollars for Labour Party and Accord Party for the South West is blatantly false and there’s no iota of truth in it.

Finally, as far as we are concerned, the elections have been fought and have been lost and won. Those who have any personal grudges or scores to settle with Dr. Okupe are at liberty to do so but be mindful of his right as a citizen and they should keep to what is true and lawful.

Igbo appeal to Lagos govt, police to protect them after elections

The Igbo in Lagos have appealed to Lagos State government
and the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Aderanti, to
put security measures in place to ensure the protection of their
lives and property after the general elections.
The appeal came just as they demanded an apology from Oba
Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos over his comment that the Igbo would
perish in the Lagos lagoon, in seven days, if they did not vote
for his choice governorship candidate in yesterday’s elections.
The Chairman, Ohaneze Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin local
government area, Chief Akalika Emmanuel, explained that the
call for the protection of life and property became necessary to
avoid unforeseen circumstances.
Acknowledging the intervention of the president elect, General
Muhammadu Buhari, and opinion leaders from Igbo and Yoruba
land, Emmanuel stated that the Igbo had sheathed their sword
in demonstration of their love for Lagos State, as well as their
maturity and willingness to be each other brothers’ keepers.
Nevertheless, he demanded that a documentary prove that such
threat from Akiolu would not repeat itself be made available,
adding that the property of Ndi -Igbo would not be unduly
taxed nor demolished , no matter the direction of the victory o f
yesterday’s governorship election.
Continuing he said: “We also demand that our business
premises and other matters of interest will not come under any
form of intimidation now or in future

UPDATE : DSTV Ignores Court Order, Hikes Subscription Fees

Multichoice Nigeria, the operator of DSTV,
has ignored the court order halting its hike
in subscription fees and has gone ahead to
enforce the new price at all of its outlets.
When TheCable visited the Multichoice outlet
in Bariga, Lagos, under the guise of
purchasing a DSTV bouquet, there was a
detailed information on the front desk with
information about both the old and new
prices.
The sales attendant confirmed the
implementation of the new price, saying: “It
used to be N1,500 (for the cheapest package)
but now its N1,800.”
Asked why it was no longer N1,500?, she
answered: “Because it has been increased.”
Asked why the company ignored the court
injunction restraining the implementation of
the hiked prices, she said: “They have not
given us the go-ahead to revert to the old
price.”
At the MultiChoice outlet in Akoka, Lagos,
the price increase was also enforced. The
sales person could not provide answers to
questions fielded her.
“They just increased it maybe because of rise
in dollar,” she muttered.
TheCable met a subscriber there who was
unaware of the court order halting the
increase, and he was visibly angry when he
discovered.
“Don’t worry, when they see wahala, you
know Nigerians. Which dollar, dollar that is
coming down. this exploitation should stop,”
he said.
“Let Buhari enter first so that then, we will
start our protest. I can’t see the service; you
put on DSTV, the service will go and come
back.
“There is no light. In 24 hours, we have
electricity for four hours. What is the service
we enjoy that you are increasing?”
Another Multichoice outlet visited at Ikeja
city mall, Lagos, it discovered that the new
tariff has also been enforced there.
When contacted, Caroline Oghuma, the
MANAGER, public relations of DSTV Nigeria,
refused to comment.
“The case is sub judice, so I can’t comment,”
she said. “It’s in court. I cannot comment.”
Pressed further on why the enforcement was
not withheld until the determination of the
suit, she said: “Whatever the situation is,
when a case is in court, the people involved
cannot comment.”
In March, DSTV announced its intention to
increase its tariff by 20 per cent but was
ordered by a Federal High Court sitting in
Lagos to halt implementation of the increase
pending determination of a suit filled before
it.

UPDATE : Nanny demands N15m for kidnapped Lagos children

A nanny, Mary Akinloye, who allegedly
kidnapped three kids in the Surulere area of
Lagos State has demanded N15m from the
victim’s parents, PUNCH Metro has learnt.
Our correspondent learnt that the family was
contacted on Thursday by the suspect and
others, who were suspected to be members
of her group. They were said to have
demanded the N15m as ransom.
PUNCH Metro had reported on Wednesday
that the Orekoya family had posted
information on OLX, an online sales portal,
seeking the service of a nanny.
Our correspondent reported that Akinloye
indicated interest and gave the Orekoyas the
contacts of two people who she said were her
relatives.
It was reported that the family agreed to
formalilse documentation with the purported
relatives before the week ran out.
After the 23-year-old resumed for work on
Tuesday, she was said to have taken the
three children ─ Aderomola (11 months old),
Adedamola (4 years old), Demola (6 years
old) ─ out, while their parents were away.
She had since not returned.
A family friend, who spoke on the condition
of anonymity, said the kidnappers contacted
the family and demanded N15m on
Thursday.
The information was confirmed by another
friend who put up the post on a social
medium, Facebook.
He said, “Is it a crime to employ a house
help? The kidnappers have demanded
N15m.”
Efforts to reach the family were abortive as
they continued to reject calls made to their
lines.
They also did not reply to three text
messages sent to them on the matter.
The Police Public Relations, Kenneth Nwosu,
said investigations were on.
He said, “Investigations are on and that is all
I can say for now.
“There are things you do that can jeopardise

“What is important in a case like this is to
ensure that the children are returned hale
and hearty. There are information you may
have and if you disclose it, you could break
the line of communication. So, we are still on
the matter to ensure the safe return of the
kids.

BREAKING: PDP Workers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) workers at the party's
national secretariat, Abuja, have gone on strike following
the non-payment of their salaries which they said are for
three months, Daily Trust has reported.
It was gathered that the workers, who are mostly youths
working as cleaners and messengers, commenced the
strike on Tuesday, after all other means to get their pay
failed to yield positive results.
Daily Trust reported that the party's national secretariat
was very dirty during a visit to the secretariat as the
striking workers refused to perform their duties.
Some of them who came to the secretariat were seen
sitting idle, wearing sad look on their faces and
complaining that they had been spending their monies on
transportation to the secretariat for the past three
months without payment.
One of them who looked very hungry and tired told our
correspondent on condition of anonymity that their major
fear is that the PDP had been defeated in the March 28
presidential election and may not settle them even
though they had done their job.
He said the party is paying them N14, 000 each as
monthly salary, adding that even when they were being
paid in the past, the salary used to come late.
"I am tired of this place. We have decided that strike is
the best option for us now because they don't want to
pay us. You can see how the environment is today. We
are not working.
"We are collecting only N14,000 each from the party as
monthly salary but they have not paid us for the past
three months, and you know we are very junior staff. We
don't have long legs like others and we can't carry
placards or banners to protest, so we want our salaries
paid," he said.
He called on the party's national chairman, Alhaji Adamu
Mu'azu to address the situation, describing it as sad and
unfortunate.
However, calls put to the PDP national publicity
secretary, Olisa Metuh, to confirm the development were
unsuccessful.

Nanny absconds with three kids one day after employment

The Orekoya family on Lawanson Road,
Surulere, Lagos State says, presently, it has
no reason to be happy.
This is because a nanny employed on March
7 by the household disappeared with three
children a day after she was employed.
The names of the missing children are
Aderomola, (11 months), Adedamola (4 years)
and Demola (6 years).
The nanny, Mary Akinloye, a 23-year-old
indigene of Ibadan, Oyo State, was said to
have been contracted via OLX, an online sales
portal.
The children’s mother, Adebisi, told PUNCH
Metro that Akinloye looked older than her
age and that her claim that she was an
indigene of Oyo State was questionable
because of her accent.
She explained that the family had a nanny,
who suddenly stopped coming to work after
observing her annual leave.
She said the family subsequently put up a
post on OLX, seeking the service of a new
nanny.
She said, “We had someone who was taking
care of the kids before now. But the woman
did not show up on Saturday and Sunday
and we urgently needed someone to assist
because we were going to resume work on
Monday. We were disturbed and that was
why I posted the information on OLX.
“She (Akinloye) called us and said she was
interested. She said she was 23 years. I
agreed to employ her in the interim because
I really did not like the fact that she was
young. She agreed to collect between N10,
000 to N15,000 even though our former
nanny collected N25,000.
“I left her at home this morning
(Wednesday) around 7.30am. It was around
1pm that my eldest son called me and said
she had taken his siblings away. He said she
told him they were going out to buy some
things. She took the 11 months on her back
and held the others by the hand. She has
since not returned.”
Adebisi said the nanny was so much in a
haste to whisk the children away that she did
not allow them to eat.
Her husband, Leke, a businessman, said the
nanny gave the family the contacts of her
relatives, who they spoke with on the
telephone.
The relatives were said to have agreed to
meet with the Orekoyas during the week to
finalise documentation.
He said, “We spoke with two people she
introduced to us as her brother and sister.
They confirmed that they were her relatives.
“They gave us a vague description of where
they lived in Ikorodu. We agreed to do
proper documentation this week.
“It was in less than 24 hours that she went
away with the kids.
“She never gave us an idea that she was on
an evil mission.
“Her spoken English was fluent. She said she
had a National Diploma and just wanted to
make some money so she could return to
school.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that the purported
relatives had since remained unreachable on
their telephone lines.
The family was said to have contacted the
police from the Itire division, who reportedly
told the family to wait for 24 hours.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth
Nwosu, confirmed the abduction, saying the
police had started   investigation with a view
to rescuing the children.
He said, “The police are making efforts to
arrest the suspects and rescue the children

Court orders DStv to suspend increase in subscription fees

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has
restrained Multi Choice Nigeria Limited,
operators of the Digital Satellite Television,
popularly known as DStv, from implementing
its new rates and increase in tariffs payable
by its subscribers across board.
The restraining order was given by Justice
C.J. Aneke sequel to a suit filed by two Lagos-
based legal practitioners, Osasuyi Adebayo
and Oluyinka Oyeniji.
In the class action suit, with number FHC/L/
CS/404/2015, Justice Aneke granted the
interim orders till the hearing of the motion
on notice for injunction on April 16, 2015.
He also ordered for the suit and the Interim
injunction to be published in national
newspapers.
Messrs. Adebayo and Adeniji are challenging
the arbitrary increase in tariffs.
The legal practitioners urged the court to
order the second defendant, the National
Broadcasting Commission, to also implement
Pay Per View where subscribers choose the
programmes they want and pay as they
watch, which is being implemented in some
other parts of the world.
In the order given on Thursday, Mr. Aneke
ruled: “That an order of interim injunction is
hereby granted to the parties to maintain the
status quo restraining the 1st defendant
(Multichoice/DSTV) from giving effect or
enforcing its planned increase in cost of the
different classes of viewing or programmes
bouquet, pending the hearing and
determination of the motion on notice.
“That an order is hereby granted certifying
the plaintiffs’ claim as a class action for
themselves as individual subscribers, other
corporate subscribers, distributors and
retailers of the 1st defendants’ services.
“That an order is hereby granted restraining
any other person whether individual or
corporate from instituting any other action
as may be related to the action against the
defendant to prevent multiplicity of lawsuits
pursuant to the appointment of the plaintiffs
in the class action but may instead opt in or
out of this action.”
In March, MultiChoice, owners of DStv and
GOtv, announced a 20 per cent price increase
for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria
to take effect from April 1, 2015.
Thus, the subscription fee of DStv’s
Premium, Compact plus, compact, access,
Family and extra view bouquets were all set
to increase, as is the price for GOtv Plus and
GOtv bouquet.
MultiChoice explained that the price increase
was necessary for it to continue offering the
best in local and international entertainment
to its subscribers.

I Still Live In Aso Rock – Patience

Patiene Jonathan has denied media reports that she has
moved out of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The first lady according to Daily Trust, made this known
while reacting to reports that she had requested her staff to
pack her personal belongings in readiness to leave the Villa.
In the said report, it was alleged that the first lady began
packing her belongings as soon as the Independent National
Electoral Commission announced that Muhammadu Buhari,
the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, had
won the election.
But Mr Ayo Adewuyi, Patience Jonathan’s spokesman in a
telephone chat with Daily Trust described the report as false.
Mr Adewuyi also dismissed insinuations that the first lady
had traveled out of the country.
He said: “She (Patience) is at home. Just leave us out
of any controversy. She did not travel to anywhere. She
is very much around in her residence.
Explaining why the office of the first lady had remained
shut since her husband lost the presidential election
he said : “You should know that she does not have to
be in the office every time”.
Meanwhile, Dame Patience Jonathan has congratulated the
wife of the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari,
Aisha after the victory of her husband at the presidential
election.
She has urged Nigerian women to work with Aisha Buhari
and give her the supreme support to make her succeed in
her new assignment

TRANSCRIPT AUDIO: What Jonathan Told Buhari In Historic Concession Phone Call

The audio file of the historic conversation between President
Goodluck Jonathan and President-elect Muhammadu Buhari,
during which the former conceded defeat in Saturday’s
presidential election, has been made public.
With presidential election results from all but one of Nigeria’s
36 states counted, and the candidate of the All Progressives
Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, clearly in unassailable lead,
President Jonathan had telephoned Mr. Buhari to concede
defeat.
President Jonathan made the call a little past 5P.M. on Monday
after it became clear his party had lost the election.
At the time the call was made, the Independent National
Electoral Commission was yet to declare Mr. Buhari winner
because it was still expecting results from Nigeria’s remote
Borno State.
By the time the Borno vote was added to the tally, Mr. Buhari
garnered 15,416,221 votes to Mr. Jonathan’s 12,853, 162 votes.
The historic concession telephone call defused tension across
Nigeria and has thrown up Mr. Jonathan as a democracy hero.
That conversation is believed to have saved Nigeria from
descending into violence in the aftermath of the election.
Read full transcript of the conversation below.

The governor disclosed this after casting his vote at the Ifofin

state is far better than what was witnessed in the August 9th

state experienced in the last August poll in the state.

on course.

Adesiyan, said the poll was peaceful in his area. He said INEC
officials and security agencies discharged their duties well.

platform of APC said card reader worked well for accreditation
than manual process.

Drama as OAU students stone President Jonathan, Ekiti Obas & Gov. Fayose & chased them out of lle-Ife

In what seems a wild reaction to the polity ailed with
hopelessness and frustration, the students of the Obafemi
Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Friday last week, took their
anger to the Oduduwa a Hall of the university where they
unleashed a dose of despondency on President Goodluck
Jonathan.
A group calling themselves Concerned Yoruba Leaders, within
PDP in the South West, had planned a one-day conference to
drum support for President Jonathan’s second term. Venue was
the Oduduwa Hall.
As the President arrived for the programme, the students, who
had planned very well to unleash their anger against Jonathan,
had laid siege to the premises of the hall. As he alighted from
his vehicle, hail of stones greeted the President.
The authorities of the school calmed down the restive students
temporarily to “cool their temper” until Governor Ayo Fayose of
Ekiti State arrived the campus followed by two 52-seater Ashok
Leyland school buses loaded with Ekiti Obas.
Fayose was so confident that the students would receive him
with open hands. But as he arrived the campus with a horde of
his boys in another bus shouting “oshoko oshoko”, the enraged
students of Ife in large numbers rushed towards his entourage
and dealt a vicious assault on them.
He was lucky to run for his life, as his security aides shielded
and ferried him to the hall. But the Obas, some of whom had
already disembarked from the buses, were not so lucky, as the
students descended on them. Instantly, one of the buses made
a detour and immediately took some of the Obas out of Ile-Ife,
but Oba Adamo Babalola of Itaji Ekiti and Alara of Aramoko Ekiti
were not lucky, as the vehicle with which they came drove off
in a high speed, leaving the duo behind.
One of the Obas quickly removed his beads and gave his horse
tail to his security guard to disguise his identity, and Dipo
Anisulowo came to the rescue of one of the Obas, as he helped
to carry his crown inside a nylon bag back to Ekiti State.
Eventually, one of the stranded Obas was later seen in the town
by the road side trying to catch Ado Ekiti-bound bus.
However, the students that had earlier mellowed down,
regrouped and waited for the President for Part 2 of anti-
Jonathan drama. Within minutes, the students had taken over
the long stretch of road leading to the town from their campus.,
and the programme was abruptly brought to a close as
Jonathan and his handlers hurried into waiting helicopters that
ferried Jonathan, Fayose and other leaders and supporters out
of the campus amid shouts of “ole ole ole”
OAU Ile-Ife students today displayed what they are noted for: to
humiliate corrupt and inept leaders who are making life
uncomfortable for them and who care less about what future
holds for young Nigerians.
