BUHARI TO REWARD 85 EAGLETS 30 YEARS AFTER

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday assured the
Golden Eaglets team that won the maiden FIFA
Under-17 World Cup in China in 1985 that his
administration would fulfil the promises he made to
them 30 years ago.
Buhari, who was Head of State, had promised the
team houses and scholarships during a reception in
honour of the players at Dodan Barracks, Lagos, in
celebration of the victory.

Nduka Ugbade, who was the captain of the team, was
the only player in the China ’85 FIFA Under-17 World
Cup squad that progressed to win a major title for
Nigeria at the senior level. The former Spain-based
defender won the Tunisia ’94 Africa Cup of Nations.
He assisted Manu Garba to guide the Golden Eaglets
to the UAE 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup triumph.
Baldwin Bazuaye and Jonathan Akpoborie also
graduated to the Super Eagles. Bazuaye was in the
squad that won silver at the Algiers ’90 Africa Cup of
Nations. Akpoborie won bronze at the Senegal ’92
Africa Cup of Nations.
But the likes of Hilary Adiki, Fatai Atere, Binebi Numan,
Joseph Babtunde, Salisu Nakande, Victor Igbinoba,
Tonworinmi Duere, Lucky Agbonsevbafe, Bella Momoh,
Chukwuma Nwoha, Sani Adamu and Dele Abubakar
failed to progress in their careers. Defender Kingsley
Aikhionbare died in the United Kingdom.
Sebastine Brodericks-Imasuen was the head coach
while Christian Chukwu was his assistant.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on
Media and Publicity Garba Shehu said in a statement
on Tuesday that the President was not happy that his
directive to state governments to reward the Eaglets in
1985 was not complied with.
“It is a pity that those promises were never fulfilled. It
is unfortunate that our players, who did us proud on
the world stage, went unrewarded for their efforts,
despite a presidential directive to the state
administrators that they should be honoured in their
home states,” the statement quoted Buhari as saying.
The statement said the Federal Government fulfilled
its own commitment by sponsoring the players to
Mexico to watch the 1986 World Cup.
He added that the promises of houses and
scholarships and naming of streets after each player
were supposed to have been taken care of by the
states.
The statement noted that shortly after the promises
were made, Buhari was overthrown and that despite
repeated pleas made to succeeding governments by
the players and their officials, some of the promises
were not fulfilled.
“I apologise for whatever embarrassment and
disillusionment in your country these raised and then
dashed hopes may have caused you. My government
will do all within its power to remedy the situation,”
the statement quoted the President as saying.

2 students die from initiation concoction in Kogi

Two teenagers, who finished their secondary education this year (names withheld), have been reported dead in Kabba, Kogi State, in mysterious circumstance.
Sources told Vanguard that their deaths were in connection with cult initiation by a confraternity in the town.
When contacted, the parents of the teenagers said they were too devastated to speak to the press. They told Vanguard that they did not want the incident reported for fear of police harassment.
A source, who craved anonymity, said the boys died of complications which resulted from drinking a “hard substance,” which was part of the initiation. He said the boys voluntarily sought to join the confraternity.
The source said:

“From what was gathered, one of the boys was given a very hard concoction to drink during his initiation into Eiye confraternity by the leaders of the cult group. “The substance, which was laden with very hard drugs, led to the death of the poor boy.”

However, a new twist has emerged in the controversy surrounding the teenagers’ deaths.
Another account has it that the boy took performance enhancing drugs which overstretched his system and led to his demise.
According to this account, four teenagers were involved in taking the concoction known in local parlance as Sukudie.
He said the teenagers, who resided at Odiolowo CAC area of Kabba, were rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Kabba, before two of them died.
The two survivors, according to the source, are Ebira boys from Okene.

I will lead a war against them like Ojukwu. Am not joking– Wike

Yesterday, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the April 11 governorship election in Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike declared war on those he considered to have betrayed outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan and the South-South. Addressing his supporters in Port Harcourt via a media briefing monitored by Sayelba Times, he said Governor Chibuike Amaechi is Judas Iscariot.
He further declared that nothing can stop his victory at the polls. Barrister Wike also alleged a plot by the State Governor to sponsor thugs to disrupt the election in order to use that as a pretence to annul the results when President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari is sworn in. He however promise to lead Rivers people to an Ojukwu style war against the Federal government to resist such attempts.
Below is his full statement.

“Today, I want all South-South and South-East to remember this, that we’ve two Judas. Let me confess to you, we held a meeting before the elections on Saturday, and we said as people from this part of the country, we must standby our brother. Some APC leaders bought into the idea. And that was why with all the money Amaechi throw around, we still gave our brother almost 1.5million votes.

Amaechi is the only betrayer that raised his ugly head to say we rigged elections. When he knows it’s obvious that you and I gave our best to our brother. In Edo state, the governor only complained of Army that was deployed in his residence. He never said the elections should be cancelled. IMO state the same thing. But it is only Amaechi that stood like Judah to tell Jega to cancel elections in rivers state.
We heard he has gone to Abuja, trying to persuade Jega to change the returning official here. In fact, let him tell Jega to come down to conduct the election himself. Amechi, Jega, and Buhari will still fail. We have taken over the Senate and the state house,we are left with the governorship, and with you again,we will get 2million votes to silent Amechi for once. We will treat him like a betrayer, and call him a stranger in his own house. He is coming to beg us, to let go. When he has succeeded in using Rivers Rtate money to fund his Fulani friends.
Amaechi, eyes will see hell the highest they can give to him is Secretary. And after 8 years, he will return home and become irrelevant. Trust the Hausa people, they will soon betray him just the way he betrayed the south south struggle. I was told he is paying some thugs so that elections will be cancelled in Rivers State,in order for them to come back and conduct it after GMB is sworn in. If they try it, they should just carve Rivers State out of Nigeria map. I will lead a war against them like Ojukwu. Am not joking, I know am on air,and I am warning them now. Any attempt to rob us the way they rob our brother (GEJ) the battle will start from rivers state.
We will remain opposition state like Lagos. In fact we from the south south and south east we remain in PDP. We leave the south west and north to run APC. That is how they tactically shared the country. And we will not allow them use our resources to develop their States.. I am urging you all to come out April 11th to do it again. We will be at the field to defend our votes, and revenge for our brother.

THANK YOU.”

The fake Army General, Aliyu Hussaini
The statement read, “The 33 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, has recorded another landmark success in the ongoing Operation Zaman Lafiyah as troops of the brigade recently arrested one Aliyu Hussaini, popularly known as Colonel, a suspected Boko Haram terrorist and an Impostor who has been parading himself as a Brigadier-General in the Nigerian Army.

Liverpool Ladies star Asisat Oshoala has been named as the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year for 2015.

Following a poll held online, as well as via mobile phone and handheld devices, Reds star Oshoala received the most votes to become the winner.
The four other contenders for the award were Veronica Boquete (Spain and FFC Frankfurt), Nadine Kessler (Germany and VFL Wolfsburg), Kim Little (Scotland and Seattle Reign FC) and Marta (Brazil and FC Rosengard).
The shortlist was selected by a panel of experts including administrators, journalists, coaches and former players.
Reflecting on her award, Oshoala said: "I am extremely proud to have won this award as it is a real honour for both myself and my family.

Just to be nominated against such world-class players was a real privilege, but to have won the award is absolutely fantastic.

Last year was an incredible year as I managed to help Nigeria U20s get to the U20 World Cup final, as well as being named African Women's Footballer of the Year, so this award tops off a great year.

I would like to thank everyone that voted for me, with a special mention to my supporters in Nigeria, including my previous club River Angels and my current club, Liverpool Ladies."
Paying his own personal tribute, Liverpool Ladies manager Matt Beard said: "It's a great accolade.

She caught our eye in the U20 World Cup with her performances when she had a fantastic tournament, and then she did the same for the first team when she helped them qualify for the World Cup.

Since she came to Liverpool this year she has improved with every training session and every game, and it's fantastic for her and great for us as well.

She's also a great character. Anyone who saw her goal against Birmingham will remember the celebration dance she did.

She's young and she's given up everything she knows to come over to England and play for Liverpool FC. She's settling in nicely and we are delighted to have her on board.

FRSC: VIO Not Permitted To Check Drivers Licence, Vehicle Particulars

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, on Monday, said that the corps would commence a crackdown on drivers who possess fake drivers license.
He also explained that the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) were not permitted by law to inspect vehicle and drivers licences.
Paying a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, Oyeyemi explained that people who work with some elements to procure fake drivers licence would not have a hiding place
He also appealed to the Inspector General for improved collaboration with the corps, especially in the areas of security, sharing intelligence and prosecution of offenders.
He also declared war on some youths who constitute themselves into nuisance on Abuja streets driving vehicles recklessly in the name of “stunting”, adding that they constitute danger not only to themselves, but also on the generality of road users.
Oyeyemi equally lamented the abuse of siren and construction of speed breakers indiscriminately by some persons or communities.
According to him, “The statutory responsibility of the VIO does not include to stop people and ask for drivers licence. There is no statutory powers given them to do so.
“All that we do are contained in the transfer of powers by the IG. If the police stops you to ask for your particulars, they are doing what they are statutorily empowered to do. What we need is collaboration to be able to do our jobs very well.
Speaking on the progress the corps has made, the FRSC boss said that road crashes reduced by 40 per cent last year.

Yale University: Withdraw The Honorary Doctorate Degree Given To Ngozi Iweala.

The petition was filed by one Sunday Iwalaiye through the world's largest petition platform wwe.change.org (An online platform where individuals can start a campaign and mobilise hundreds of others locally or hundreds of thousands around the world, making government bodies and company responsive and accountable).
"YALE UNIVERSITY GAVE ITS PRESTIGIOUS HONORARY DOCTORATE DEGREE TO AN UNDESERVING NIGERIAN"
:Ngozi Iweala, the outgoing Nigeria's finance minister was awarded a honorary doctorate degree by Yale University on May 15, 2015. The citation from the Yale University reads:"Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Doctor of Humane Letters. You are a citizenof your country, your continent, and the world. Shaped by challenging experiences during your childhood in Nigeria, you have made social and economic reform your mission. As Nigeria’s coordinating minister of economic development and minister of finance, you have tackled corruption, created a vision and path to long-term economic stability, and worked to build a culture of transparency. At the World Bank, you made food securitya priority and provided policy adviceand capital for the world’s poorest countries. With wisdom, a fierce dedication to doing what is right, and unflagging energy, you have transformed the economic landscape of your nation. We are proud to name you Doctor of Humane Letter"This citation from the Yale University does not reflect nor represent everything that has happened under the watch and the supervision of the Nigerian economy by Ngozi Iweala as the nation's finance minister.
There is no tangible evidence of any economic development in Nigeria under the leadership of Ngozi Iweala in all reality. Nigeria's economy is still an oil-dependent economy that is debt and borrowingridden as well as 100% consuming and importing in nature. Nigeria's debt profile has risen rapidly under Ngozi Iweala and Nigeria has borrowed over $2 billion in the last four months alone to pay salaries ofthe federal and state civil servants. Our foreign reserves and excess crude oil accounts have both depleted heavily under Ngozi Iweala. The recurrent expenditures in the federal budgets reached the highest levels which made capital development practically impossible in Nigeria under Ngozi Iweala. The board of regents of this ivy league school missed it completely by awarding their prestigious honorarydoctorate degree to an undeserving Nigerian in all truth, honesty and reality. The Nigeria's economy has remained the same under Ngozi Iweala without any evidence of its diversity from oil.
The Nigerian Naira crashed to its lowest value in its history under Ngozi Iweala. The true picture that Yale University missed is the fact that the economy of Nigeria has almost grounded to its final halt today which will makes its a daunting task for the incoming administration of General Muhammadu Buhari to meet its campaign promises. The menace of official corruption and financial scandals have both reached their peaks in Nigeria underNgozi Iweala. A central bank governor was fired for disclosing that $20 billion was missing from the federal coffers and this allegation was investigated in a shady and questionable manner. The oil subsidy scam that cheated Nigeria's tax payers of trillions of Naira was coordinated and supervised by Ngozi Iweala. The culture of official corruption and state resource mismanagement were both honored, celebrated, protected and defended under the leadership of Ngozi Iweala as the supervising coordinator of the Nigerian economy. To give a honorary doctorate degree to an undeserving Nigerian by this world's reknown university is the biggest slap on the faces of the 180 million Nigerians in 2015.
I am using this social medium to appeal to the board of regents of this prestigious university to withdraw this honorary degree that they awarded to this Nigerian immediately and without any furtherdelay for the sake of posterity.

214 OF THE 234 GIRLS RESCUED IN NIGERIA FROM BOKO HARAM ARE PREGNANT

The latest rescue of additional 234 women and children by the Nigerian Army from the Sambisa Forest in Borno State, indicated, yesterday, that a sizeable number of the rescued girls were visibly pregnant, even as unofficial reports put the latest number of pregnant girls in one of the camps in Borno as at last Saturday at 214.
Giving this indication in Lagos, Executive Director, UNFPA, Prof. Babatunde Osotimehin, also disclosed that in the last one year, the organization had taken deliveries of over 16,000 pregnancies in the troubled North East part of the country.
Osotimehin, while giving update of the response to the rehabilitation of the rescued women and children, said the organization, in anticipation of the magnitude of the problem on hand, had put in place a formidable team in collaboration with the Federal and state governments, to first restore the dignity of the girls, who, he said, are facing severe psychosocial trauma.
On the state of the girls, he explained that most of them, due to the long period spent in captivity, required a special set of services that would facilitate their integration into society.
“What we found is that some of the women and girls that have come back actually have much more in terms of the stress they have faced, so the counselling has to be more intense and working with them one-on-one.
“I’m glad the communities are not excommunicating them and are taking them back. That is an important therapy too. We anticipate this is going to escalate because the military intervention is continuing, we find that more people are now needing our services and we will continue,” he stated.
Further, he explained that the UNFPA had earlier collaborated with the Federal and state governments to train 60 counsellors to offer psychosocial services to the affected women and children. He noted that those trained were people from the communities, who understand the context and sociology of the people.
“UNFPA is providing dignity for women. In conflict and disasters, most people would only think of water and sanitation, provision of tents and housing, and food, which are all important. But women and girls have specific needs that nobody else looks after; it is only UNFPA that is doing this. We are giving psychosocial counselling.
“Beyond that, in the growing young people, we will always have pregnant women, but nobody segregates the needs of the pregnant women which are very important and different from the needs of the average community. We look after them, and ensure they get antenatal care and that they deliver properly and that they even get Caesarean Section when necessary.

Xenophobia: Fish out killers of Nigerians, others – TUC tells South Africa

Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has
condemned the on-going xenophobic attacks
against foreigners, especially Nigerians in
South Africa.
They also urged Jacob Zuma-led government
to take all necessary steps to stop the
dastardly act of stealing, killing and taking
over people’s property in Johannesburg,
Durban and Pretoria.
A statement signed yesterday by the
president-general, Comrade Bobboi Bala
Kaigama and the general secretary, Comrade
Musa Lawal, noted that the act at this time
and age was appalling, abysmal and beastly.
“It is true that the government of South
Africa and other countries of the world have
condemned the attacks, yet we demand that
the government investigate and punish those
involved in accordance with the provisions
of the law of the land,” TUC said.
“Again, if the comments we have read in the
dailies and social media credited to the Zulu
King, Goodwill Zwelithini and son of Zuma,
Edward asking non South Africans to return
to their countries is anything to go by, then
it means they have forgotten in a hurry how
Nigeria and the rest of the world rallied and
mobilised support for the country during its
apartheid experience.
“Indeed, what is happening is nothing but a
demonstration of shortness of memory and
we feel more terrible about the whole thing
because of the underground role of some
prominent people in government.”

Xenophobia: Ali Baba urges FG to close South African companies in Nigeria

Acclaimed comedy King, Ali Baba has joined
other celebrities condemning the ongoing
xenophobic attacks in South Africa. The
veteran commedian had in his own reaction
advised the Nigerian governmnet to do the
needful in order to check the excesses of
their brother country, South Africa. He
advised that all South African compnies in
Nigeria must be made to close shops and
leave the country if nothing is done to stop
the attacks.
In a post on twitter, Ali Baba said if after 48
hours untimatum by the governmnet to
South Africa, the xenophobia issue is not
addressed, then his suggested action must be
taken. In the post, he wrote“SERIOUSLY, OUR

TO CLOSE SHOP,” he said.

Xenophobia : We Won't Apologise, Foreigners Are Not Welcome - South African King Replies

King Goodwill Zwelithini stands by his view that
foreigners should go back to their home countries.
KING Goodwill Zwelithini meant each and every word
when he said foreigners must pack their bags and get
out of South Africa.
So said Zwelithini’s spokesman, Prince Thulani Zulu,
who told Daily Sun yesterday the king has nothing to be
sorry for.
The Zulu king’s outburst came on Saturday during his
speech at a moral regeneration event in Pongola,
northern KZN.
In the presence of both Police Minister Nathi Nhleko and
provincial MEC Willies Mchunu, the king was reported to
have told the gathering that it was time foreigners were
told to return to their countries.
The king accused them of messing up the country’s
towns by hanging their fake clothing brands on the
streets.
“Now when you walk down the street you can’t
recognise a shop you used to know because it has been
taken over by foreigners who mess it up by hanging up
rags,” the king said.
His remarks were widely condemned as encouraging
hatred towards foreigners, which may result in more
violent behaviour towards them.
But Prince Thulani said the king won’t apologise
because he stood by what he said.
“I think the people who’re complaining are
misinterpreting his speech.
“He didn’t say foreigners must be attacked or harassed.
“The king was talking about foreigners who are here
illegally.
“Some are involved in serious crimes like drug and
human trafficking.
“We don’t need such people in our country so the king is
right,” said Zulu.
The king’s speech has been strongly criticised for
fuelling hatred against foreigners by the Somali
Association of South Africa and the Congolese Solidarity
Campaign.
The provincial government distanced itself from the
king’s speech. It said it was guided by the Constitution,
which guarantees human rights for all in SA.

corpse in the community, Kayode Akinmade, the Ondo state
commissioner for information and strategy, has said.
247NN had reported that the unidentified disease is
ravaging the Ode-Irele community in Ondo State and has left
28 people dead in the past three days.
Speaking with TheCable , Akinmade said the diseases was
not the same as Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), although it had
managed to kill its victims in less than 24 hours.
“The symptoms were not that of Ebola; it’s a 24-hour attack
that would make the victim to have headache, be
unconscious, then after 24 hours, the person is gone. That
one cannot be Ebola,” he said. “All the necessary facility that
government should provide, government has done that. We
have moved all the ambulances and everything.”
He added that although there were claims that as many as 34
people had died, only 14 people had fallen victim of the
strange disease. “Available data do not indicate that 34
people have died – only 14,”he said. “And from what we got,
the 14 had personal contacts with those people who came to
exhume the corpse that led to this epidemic.”
He added that the state commissioner for health, Dayo
Akinyanju would “in the next couple of hours, make a state
wide broadcast” to update Nigerians on the state of the
disease. Soji Gbadebo, the permanent secretary (protocol), in
the state who also spoke with TheCable, corroborated
Akinmade’s position.
“There is a general allusion that there was a – there was
something buried there (Ode Irele) and some people went
there to exhume the thing, and sold it to this English
people,” Gbadebo said.
“Only those who were directly involved have been affected by
this epidemic. “Meanwhile, government has sent powerful
health team there to unravel the mystery, so, for now, we
may not know what actually happened until a scientific
report unfolds it.” Speaking anonymously, a resident said the
disease had claimed 34 lives although the newspapers
reported just 12.
On Thursday, the strange ailment was reported to have
claimed 12 lives in Ode-Irele, a community in Irele local
government area of the state. The disease is characterised
with headache in victims, then loss of sight, and finally
death, all in a few hours.
The state government has said it is using equipment bought
for the prevention and control of Ebola virus disease in the
state to isolate the victims and control the unknown
outbreak. Samples from the victims have been collected and
sent to laboratories for investigation, with the World Health
Organisation (WHO) already in the know.

Supreme Court Reaffirms Fayose As Ekiti Governor

The Supreme Court today, April 14 has affirmed the election
of Ayo Fayose as the governor of Ekiti State, dismissing a
suit that sought to nullify the 2014 polls.
Mr. Fayose’s election was challenged by the All
Progressives Congress, APC, whose candidate in the
election, Kayode Fayemi, lost to Mr. Fayose.
The governor is currently facing an attempt by state
lawmakers to impeach him.
Ahead of the Supreme Court ruling, Mr. Fayose, in a state-
wide broadcast on Monday asked the people of the state to
maintain the peace and pursue their businesses and lawful
duties normally.
He credited the success of his Peoples Democratic Party in
Saturday’s House of Assembly election to Ekiti residents and
thanked them accordingly.
Mr. Fayose said the victory confirmed that he had the
genuine support of the people.
The governor said he would be vindicated at the end of the
day and “triumph over whatever plot being hatched to
truncate,” his tenure.
The APC had petitioned the Ekiti Governorship Election
Tribunal challenging the victory of Mr. Fayose in the
governorship election.
The Tribunal, on December 19, 2014, upheld Mr. Fayose’s
victory and dismissed the APC’s petition for “lack of merit”.
Dissatisfied with the verdict, the APC went to the Court of
Appeal, on the grounds that Mr. Fayose was not eligible to
contest the governorship election since he had been
impeached on October 16, 2006 during his first tenure as
governor.
The APC also alleged that the governor forged his academic
credentials and breached the Code of Conduct rules.
On February 16, a five-member Appeal Court panel, led by
Justice Abdul Aboki, upheld the judgment of the Election
Tribunal and affirmed Mr. Fayose as winner of the June 21,
2014 poll.
The Appeal Court, however, upheld APC’s complaints that
the military was used to harass and intimidate its supporters
and leaders during the polls.
The APC, not satisfied with the judgment, went to the
Supreme Court.
The court on Tuesday upheld Mr. Fayose’s election, the
News Agency of Nigeria reported.
However, details of the ruling are yet unclear.
