A nanny, Mary Akinloye, who allegedly
kidnapped three kids in the Surulere area of
Lagos State has demanded N15m from the
victim’s parents, PUNCH Metro has learnt.
Our correspondent learnt that the family was
contacted on Thursday by the suspect and
others, who were suspected to be members
of her group. They were said to have
demanded the N15m as ransom.
PUNCH Metro had reported on Wednesday
that the Orekoya family had posted
information on OLX, an online sales portal,
seeking the service of a nanny.
Our correspondent reported that Akinloye
indicated interest and gave the Orekoyas the
contacts of two people who she said were her
relatives.
It was reported that the family agreed to
formalilse documentation with the purported
relatives before the week ran out.
After the 23-year-old resumed for work on
Tuesday, she was said to have taken the
three children ─ Aderomola (11 months old),
Adedamola (4 years old), Demola (6 years
old) ─ out, while their parents were away.
She had since not returned.
A family friend, who spoke on the condition
of anonymity, said the kidnappers contacted
the family and demanded N15m on
Thursday.
The information was confirmed by another
friend who put up the post on a social
medium, Facebook.
He said, “Is it a crime to employ a house
help? The kidnappers have demanded
N15m.”
Efforts to reach the family were abortive as
they continued to reject calls made to their
lines.
They also did not reply to three text
messages sent to them on the matter.
The Police Public Relations, Kenneth Nwosu,
said investigations were on.
He said, “Investigations are on and that is all
I can say for now.
“There are things you do that can jeopardise
investigation.
“What is important in a case like this is to
ensure that the children are returned hale
and hearty. There are information you may
have and if you disclose it, you could break
the line of communication. So, we are still on
the matter to ensure the safe return of the
kids.

NNPC Missing $2OBillion Traced To Zenith Bank
NNPC Missing $2OBillion Traced To Zenith Bank PLC And
Other Positive Changes In Nigeria So Far
Everyone get in here let me feed you on the happenings since
the presidential election so far…hehe
So, I told by a friend about the missing 20b that has been
traced to Zenith bank, I decide to do some digging and I
found out from a political analyst that the alleged missing
$20billion dollar by Ex-CBN Governor; Sanusi Lamido Sanusi,
from NNPC has been traced to Zenith Bank Plc.
If you remember that as at the time former governor of CBN
Sanusi Lamido revealed the missing $20 billion, the present
CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele was the MD/CEO of Zenith
Bank Plc.
If you keep your ears on the happenings in Nigeria, you
should have started reading this all over BBM, Whatsapp, and
Facebook.
You will also recall that ex-Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria,
Mallam Lamido Sanusi, said he had begun a process to trace
the missing $20bn oil money before his suspension by
President Goodluck Jonathan.
A meeting was held at the Aso Rock Villa yesterday, on how
all stolen wealth of the Country can be returned to the public
purse. This is to take a precautionary measure against any
effort to probe this government by the incoming government
of General Muhammadu Buhari, President-Elect.
It is no longer news the military has suddenly found General
Buhari’s certificate; that Nigerian Television Authority now
even says Buhari has Masters Degree and that Diezani paid a
discreet visit to General Buhari.
One little birdie told me that industrial training funds authority
has begun payment of outstanding debts they were
‘owing’ (or withholding?) students for over two years.
It may also delight you that numerous filling stations under
padlock on the pretext of fuel scarcity before the presidential
election are now open for business.
Do you think that there is a good chance that we are moving
towards a better Nigeria? Let’s keep praying for it is going to
be a very loooooonnnnngggggg road….What matters is that
one day we will finally get
BREAKING: PDP Workers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) workers at the party's
national secretariat, Abuja, have gone on strike following
the non-payment of their salaries which they said are for
three months, Daily Trust has reported.
It was gathered that the workers, who are mostly youths
working as cleaners and messengers, commenced the
strike on Tuesday, after all other means to get their pay
failed to yield positive results.
Daily Trust reported that the party's national secretariat
was very dirty during a visit to the secretariat as the
striking workers refused to perform their duties.
Some of them who came to the secretariat were seen
sitting idle, wearing sad look on their faces and
complaining that they had been spending their monies on
transportation to the secretariat for the past three
months without payment.
One of them who looked very hungry and tired told our
correspondent on condition of anonymity that their major
fear is that the PDP had been defeated in the March 28
presidential election and may not settle them even
though they had done their job.
He said the party is paying them N14, 000 each as
monthly salary, adding that even when they were being
paid in the past, the salary used to come late.
"I am tired of this place. We have decided that strike is
the best option for us now because they don't want to
pay us. You can see how the environment is today. We
are not working.
"We are collecting only N14,000 each from the party as
monthly salary but they have not paid us for the past
three months, and you know we are very junior staff. We
don't have long legs like others and we can't carry
placards or banners to protest, so we want our salaries
paid," he said.
He called on the party's national chairman, Alhaji Adamu
Mu'azu to address the situation, describing it as sad and
unfortunate.
However, calls put to the PDP national publicity
secretary, Olisa Metuh, to confirm the development were
unsuccessful.
Nanny absconds with three kids one day after employment
The Orekoya family on Lawanson Road,
Surulere, Lagos State says, presently, it has
no reason to be happy.
This is because a nanny employed on March
7 by the household disappeared with three
children a day after she was employed.
The names of the missing children are
Aderomola, (11 months), Adedamola (4 years)
and Demola (6 years).
The nanny, Mary Akinloye, a 23-year-old
indigene of Ibadan, Oyo State, was said to
have been contracted via OLX, an online sales
portal.
The children’s mother, Adebisi, told PUNCH
Metro that Akinloye looked older than her
age and that her claim that she was an
indigene of Oyo State was questionable
because of her accent.
She explained that the family had a nanny,
who suddenly stopped coming to work after
observing her annual leave.
She said the family subsequently put up a
post on OLX, seeking the service of a new
nanny.
She said, “We had someone who was taking
care of the kids before now. But the woman
did not show up on Saturday and Sunday
and we urgently needed someone to assist
because we were going to resume work on
Monday. We were disturbed and that was
why I posted the information on OLX.
“She (Akinloye) called us and said she was
interested. She said she was 23 years. I
agreed to employ her in the interim because
I really did not like the fact that she was
young. She agreed to collect between N10,
000 to N15,000 even though our former
nanny collected N25,000.
“I left her at home this morning
(Wednesday) around 7.30am. It was around
1pm that my eldest son called me and said
she had taken his siblings away. He said she
told him they were going out to buy some
things. She took the 11 months on her back
and held the others by the hand. She has
since not returned.”
Adebisi said the nanny was so much in a
haste to whisk the children away that she did
not allow them to eat.
Her husband, Leke, a businessman, said the
nanny gave the family the contacts of her
relatives, who they spoke with on the
telephone.
The relatives were said to have agreed to
meet with the Orekoyas during the week to
finalise documentation.
He said, “We spoke with two people she
introduced to us as her brother and sister.
They confirmed that they were her relatives.
“They gave us a vague description of where
they lived in Ikorodu. We agreed to do
proper documentation this week.
“It was in less than 24 hours that she went
away with the kids.
“She never gave us an idea that she was on
an evil mission.
“Her spoken English was fluent. She said she
had a National Diploma and just wanted to
make some money so she could return to
school.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that the purported
relatives had since remained unreachable on
their telephone lines.
The family was said to have contacted the
police from the Itire division, who reportedly
told the family to wait for 24 hours.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth
Nwosu, confirmed the abduction, saying the
police had started investigation with a view
to rescuing the children.
He said, “The police are making efforts to
arrest the suspects and rescue the children

Court orders DStv to suspend increase in subscription fees
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has
restrained Multi Choice Nigeria Limited,
operators of the Digital Satellite Television,
popularly known as DStv, from implementing
its new rates and increase in tariffs payable
by its subscribers across board.
The restraining order was given by Justice
C.J. Aneke sequel to a suit filed by two Lagos-
based legal practitioners, Osasuyi Adebayo
and Oluyinka Oyeniji.
In the class action suit, with number FHC/L/
CS/404/2015, Justice Aneke granted the
interim orders till the hearing of the motion
on notice for injunction on April 16, 2015.
He also ordered for the suit and the Interim
injunction to be published in national
newspapers.
Messrs. Adebayo and Adeniji are challenging
the arbitrary increase in tariffs.
The legal practitioners urged the court to
order the second defendant, the National
Broadcasting Commission, to also implement
Pay Per View where subscribers choose the
programmes they want and pay as they
watch, which is being implemented in some
other parts of the world.
In the order given on Thursday, Mr. Aneke
ruled: “That an order of interim injunction is
hereby granted to the parties to maintain the
status quo restraining the 1st defendant
(Multichoice/DSTV) from giving effect or
enforcing its planned increase in cost of the
different classes of viewing or programmes
bouquet, pending the hearing and
determination of the motion on notice.
“That an order is hereby granted certifying
the plaintiffs’ claim as a class action for
themselves as individual subscribers, other
corporate subscribers, distributors and
retailers of the 1st defendants’ services.
“That an order is hereby granted restraining
any other person whether individual or
corporate from instituting any other action
as may be related to the action against the
defendant to prevent multiplicity of lawsuits
pursuant to the appointment of the plaintiffs
in the class action but may instead opt in or
out of this action.”
In March, MultiChoice, owners of DStv and
GOtv, announced a 20 per cent price increase
for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria
to take effect from April 1, 2015.
Thus, the subscription fee of DStv’s
Premium, Compact plus, compact, access,
Family and extra view bouquets were all set
to increase, as is the price for GOtv Plus and
GOtv bouquet.
MultiChoice explained that the price increase
was necessary for it to continue offering the
best in local and international entertainment
to its subscribers.

BREAKING NEWS: The Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Abdullahi Minkaila has been killed in a mysterious fire outbreak.
The Kano State Resident Electoral
Commissioner, Alhaji Abdullahi Minkaila has
been killed in a mysterious fire outbreak.
The deceased was burnt along with his wife,
Zulaiha and two children, Aisha and Asmau, in
an inferno when his residence was engulfed by
fire early Friday morning.
The late Minkaila and his family were rushed to
the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital
where they gave up the ghost Friday morning.
Spokesman of the Independent Electoral
Commission, Mallam Garba confirmed the
incident.
He said the bodies of the victims were already
being conveyed to the late Commissioner’s
native Dutse in Jigawa, for burial, in line with
Islamic tradition.
Similarly, the Public Relations Officer of the
Kano State Police Command, Magaji
Majiya, confirmed the sad incident.
According to him, the fire might have been
caused by a spark in the family’s generator set
at about 4a.m.
He said the fire later spread to other parts of the
house and that the INEC Commissioner and his
family tried to escape through the window of
one of the toilets in the building but were
blocked by a burglary barrier.
Majiya said the State Police Commissioner,
Ibrahim Idris, and the Deputy Police
Commissioner in-charge of Criminal
Investigation Department (CID), arrived the
scene almost on time.
They were the ones that rushed the INEC
commissioner and his family to Murtala
Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where they were
confirmed dead.
Neighbours, however, wonder how a generator
spark led to the kind of fire that engulfed a
whole building killing all occupants.
Minkaila presided over last Saturday’s
presidential and national assembly elections in
Kano.

Falana Warns Of Military Coup, Says Elections May Not Hold
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has warned that
the March 28 and April 11 elections may be sabotaged by
anti-democratic forces, which could lead the military to stage
a coup d’etat and set in place an interim government.
Mr. Falana, who stated this in a speech delivered at the
Foursquare Gospel Church owned Life Theological Seminary,
Ikorodu, on Sunday, said despite assurances by President
Goodluck Jonathan and the Independent National Electoral
Commission, there was no indication that the election will hold
as billed.
He also warned of the likelihood of post-election violence
should the vote go forward.
Both President Jonathan and the Independent Electoral
Commission chair, Attahiru Jega, have maintained that the new
election dates are sacrosanct.
“There is no indication that the election will hold,” he said. “If
the INEC goes ahead with the conduct of the elections there are
fears that the exercise may be sabotaged by anti-democratic
forces. If the election holds the results may be rejected leading
to a post-election violence which may threaten the corporate
existence of the nation.
“In the circumstance, an interim government may be established
and be saddled with the task of preparing the country for
another political transition. In the alternative, a coup d’etat that
may be staged by the top echelon of the armed forces under the
pretext of restoring law and order and fighting the menace of
insurgency. The military wing of the ruling parties succeeded in
Mali and Burkina Faso. But having divided the country along
ethnic and religious lines, the masterminds of the political
crisis are not likely to profit from the perfidy.”
He therefore, asked Nigerians to prepare “for a long drawn out
battle for the liberation of the country from political and
economic predators”.
In his speech, the lawyer commended the renewed onslaught
against the deadly terror group, Boko Haram, in the North-East
region of Nigeria by both the federal government and the
Nigerian military.
He, however, asked the military to discontinue the court martial
of several solders who had earlier complained about lack of
sophisticated weapons to face the insurgents.
He said the government’s admittance that it purchased new
equipment for the fight to succeed, meant that the soldiers were
justified in the earlier protest.
He also asked the Federal Government to implement the
recommendations of the Ambassador Usman Gilmatiri
presidential panel on insurgency in the north east region and
embark on a special programme to address the problems of
child education and youth unemployment in the region.
On the state of the nation’s economy, Mr. Falana said the bulk
of the intervention funds created by the Goodluck Jonathan-led
administration was for the rich.
According to Mr. Falana, the funds including- Agricultural
Credit Guarantee Scheme (N69billion); Commercial Agricultural
Credit Guarantee Scheme (N200billion); the Nigerian Incentive-
Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending
(N200billion); Small and Medium Enterprises Credit Guarantee
Scheme (N200billion); the SMEs Restructuring and Refinancing
Scheme (N200billion) and Power and Airlines Intervention Fund
(N300billion) are yet to have effect on the economy.
“Sequel to the crash in the price of crude oil the Federal
Government announced that austerity measures would be
imposed on the hapless Nigerian people,” he said. “Because of
the gross mismanagement of the economy by the government
and its allies workers are now salaries for months. After the
elections the people are going to be made to bear the brunt of
the looting of the treasury and costs of running the
government.
“But in spite of the grinding poverty in the land Nigerian
legislators are said to be the highest paid in the world. The
country’s public officers equally receive the highest estacodes
in the world. With over 10 aircraft Nigeria has the largest
presidential fleet among the developing nations in the world.”
The lawyer also accused the Central Bank of Nigeria of
“dollarization of the economy”.
“In a bid to dollarize the economy and destroys the Nigerian
economy the CBN supplies millions of dollars to the foreign
exchange market on a weekly basis,” he said. “Although Nigeria
has become the largest importer of the United States dollars in
the world neither the International Monetary Fund (IMF) nor the
World Bank has ever questioned the reckless devaluation of the
economy. Even, the National Assembly which is debating the
2015 Appropriation Bill has not deemed it to consider the
deleterious effects of the increasing devaluation of the national
currency on the implementation of the Budget.”
The media was also not left out as Mr. Falana accused the
media of diverting attention from Nigeria’s problem of youth
unemployment, infrastructural decay, insecurity, corruption,
currency devaluation to giving undue prominence to the
campaign of calumny and character assassination embarked
upon by some politicians.
“The media have thrown caution to the winds by colluding with
certain politicians to divert attention from the crises of youth
unemployment, infrastructural decay, insecurity, corruption,
currency devaluation etc,” he said. “Thus, by giving undue
prominence to the campaign of calumny and character
assassination embarked upon by some politicians the media
have denied the Nigerian people the opportunity to make
informed decisions on the candidates of their choice.
BREAKING: Court bars use of soldiers in election
.Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, southwest Nigeria,
on Monday, restrained the President Goodluck Jonathan-
led Federal Government from deploying the military to
supervise the coming general elections.
The presiding Judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba, in his ruling,
declared that it is unconstitutional to deploy military for the
supervision of election without the approval of the National
Assembly.
Nigerian soldiers on patrol in Maiduguri
The ruling of the court, was sequel to a suit filed by Femi
Gbajabiamila, a member of the House of Representatives
representing Surulere Federal Constituency 2 under the platform
of All Progressives Congress, APC against President Goodluck
Jonathan, Chief of Defence Staff, Chief Of Army Staff, Chief of Air
Staff, Chief of Naval Staff and the Attorney General of the
Federation.
In his argument, Seni Adio, lawyer to the plaintiff, argued that
there was an allegation and evidence that the military inhibited
free movement, free access and intimidation of voters in of
Osun, Ekiti, and Anambra where the military were deployed
during the governorship elections in those states.
In addition, Adio argued further that it is not ideal to deploy the
military to supervise election in a democratic setting.
Consequently, considering what happened in Osun and Ekiti in
2014 and Anambra in November, 2013, he urges the court to
restrain the defendants from using the military in the coming
elections.
Mr. Dele Adeshina, SAN, opposed the application on the ground
that the President being the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed
Forces, is empowered under Armed Forces Act to deploy the
military to maintain law and order.
In his response, Adio said the Armed Forces Act is subordinate
to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Monday’s ruling tallies with that of the Federal High Court in
Sokoto, Northwest Nigeria, which had on Thursday, 29 January,
2015, outlawed the use of the military for election duty across
Nigeria.
The court ruled on the lingering controversy and declared the
use of soldiers as unconstitutional.
Justice Mohammed Rilwan Aikawa ruled that other than for the
purposes of protecting the nation’s territorial integrity, no
constitutional provision allows for the deployment of the
military for elections.
The suit challenging the deployment of military for election
duties was instituted by the Deputy Speaker of the House of
Assembly, Bello Goronyo, representing Goronyo Constituency in
Sokoto State.
Justice Rilwan added that for the Federal Government to do so,
it must have taken recourse to the National Assembly, which
would enact such law.
The presidential candidate of the opposition All Progressives
Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari had early in
January warned President Goodluck Jonathan against further
deployment of soldiers to cities and towns during elections.
He said that the soldiers were meant to defend the territorial
integrity of the country and not for policing elections.
Whereas few military men have been deployed to tackle
insurgents in the north east, he said a large number were
deployed to monitor elections.
Also, in its February 16 letter, APC drew Jonathan’s and the
INEC’s attention to the January 29 judgment of Justice R.M.
Aikawa of the Federal High Court, Sokoto and the February 16
decision of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, which outlawed the
President’s unilateral deployment of soldiers for the June 21,
2014 Ekiti State governorship election. It urged them to obey
both decisions.
In the letter signed by the Director, Legal, APC Presidential
Campaign Council, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume (SAN), the party
argued that by virtue of both decisions, it had become illegal
for the President and INEC to involve members of the armed
forces in electoral matters without the National Assembly’s
permission.
Justice Aikawa restrained the President and INEC “from
engaging the service of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the
security supervision of elections in any manner whatsoever in
any part of Nigeria, without an Act of the National Assembly.”
Justice Abdul Aboki , in his lead judgment in the Ekiti State
Governorship Election appeal delivered on February 16, held
that “even the President of Nigeria has no powers to call on the
Nigerian Armed Forces and to unleash them on peaceful
citizens, who are exercising their franchise to elect their
leaders.
“Whoever unleashed soldiers on Ekiti State disturbed the peace
of the election on June 21, 2014; acted in flagrant breach of the
Constitution and flouted the provisions of the Electoral Act,
which required an enabling environment by civil authorities in
the conduct of elections.”
Section 215 of the 1999 Constitution makes the maintenance of
internal security, including law and order during elections, the
exclusive responsibility of the police.
According to Lagos lawyer Mr Femi Falana (SAN), it is
erroneous for Prof Jega to say that only the military could
guarantee security during the elections.
To him, once INEC has discharged its constitutional duty of
fixing election dates, the onus is on the police to provide
security and maintain law and order.
Falana recalled that the courts have consistently enjoined the
Federal Government to desist from involving the armed forces in
elections.
He cited the leading judgment of the Court of Appeal in Yussuf
v Obasanjo (2005) 18 NWLR (PT 956) 96, which the court held:
“It is up to the police to protect our nascent democracy and not
the military, otherwise the democracy might be wittingly or
unwittingly militarized. This is not what the citizenry bargained
for in wrestling power from the military in 1999. Conscious step
or steps should be taken to civilianize the polity to ensure the
survival and sustenance of democracy.”
The court, Falana said, reiterated its views in the case of Buhari
v Obasanjo (2005) 1 WRN 1 at 200 when it stated: “In spite of
the non-tolerant nature and behavior of our political class in
this country, we should by all means try to keep armed
personnel of whatever status or nature from being part and
parcel of our election process. The civilian authorities should
be left to conduct and carry out fully the electoral processes at
all levels.”
Upholding the judgment, the Supreme Court stated in Buhari v
Obasanjo (2005) 50 WRN 1 at 313 that the state is obligated to
ensure that “citizens who are sovereign can exercise their
franchise freely, unmolested and undisturbed.”
Falana said going by the verdicts, Prof Jega should ensure that
INEC is not further blackmailed by the military hierarchy.
“On their own part, the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the
Service Chiefs should desist from usurping the constitutional
responsibility of the INEC and the Nigeria Police Force,” Falana
added.

APC, PDP supporters clash in London
Nigeria’s political rivalry hit new heights following a clash between supporters of Nigeria’s leading political parties in London today.
The protesters believed to be supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and All Progressives Congress, APC, besieged Chatham House while General Muhammadu Buhari was delivering his lecture with various placards.
While supporters of PDP brandished placards that read: “Buhari Belongs to the past: The past can’t belong to the future of our children”, “A dictator hiding behind another pastor cannot be a democrat”, and “Nigeria will not return to the past”, supporters of APC displayed a placard that read: “Buhari/Osinbajo: Real Change Has Come”.
An amorphous group called the Civil Society and Support Groups-Diaspora coordinated the protest against Buhari after an alleged mobilisation fee of $20,000 was paid.
The growing support being enjoyed by Buhari from the international community and global leaders was identified as the driving force behind the move for the protest staged to embarrass Buhari while he delivers his lecture.
Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti State Governor, who has been sponsoring series of hate and death wish advertorials against Buhari has been accused as a major financier of the latest protest.
Tension between the two camps were however calmed by officers of the Metropolitan police who patrolled the area.

Fani-Kayode Counters President Jonathan, Says Ekiti Rigging Tape Authentic
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Mr. Fani-Kayode said his team had listened to and reviewed the recording and that it came to the conclusion that the opposition All Progressives Congress turned fact on its head by claiming that Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state; former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; and the Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, who featured in the recording, planned how to rig the election.
“We have listened to the audio clip and we make bold to say that the discussion that took place in it did not make any mention of any form of rigging in the Ekiti state governorship election and neither did it contain any evidence of any conspiracy to rig,” he said.
Mr. Fani-Kayode also said rather than attempting to orchestrate rigging, what the audio clip clearly revealed was Governor Fayose expressing concerns that a military commander was not acting on information about illegal movement of weapons into certain parts of the state.
“The Governor and others were apparently worried that safety of the voters and INEC officials could be compromised if security measures were not strictly enforced,” he said.
Mr Fani-Kayode’s admission of the authenticity of the tape is another chapter in the series of contradictory responses from the ruling party and those at the centre of the vote rigging plot.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, last Friday, Mr. Jonathan said he would not investigate the authenticity of the audio recording because it was a “fabrication.”
“It’s all fabrications. Why should I investigate things that are not real?” he asked.
Using forensic analysis that compared the voices in the recording with public record samples of the individuals in the recording, Guardian Consulting, The New York-based security firm, that helped authenticate the recordings, confirmed that the tape was genuine.
“The voices from the recording were subjected to a Forensic Voice Frequency Comparison against known samples and were found to match to a 98 per cent degree of certainty,” the firm said.
Mr Jonathan’s dismissal of the tape as a fabrication came after Mr Obanikoro denied taking part in the meeting and threatened to sue PREMIUM TIMES and Sahara Reporters for their vigorous reporting on the matter.
Mr. Adesiyan confessed that the recording was genuine but that it was more of an altercation between Mr. Fayose and Mr. Momoh after the former accused the later of favouring the then governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi.
“Fayose accused the General who supervised the Ekiti election of taking bribe from Fayemi and APC, that was two days before the election. They called me because they said the General disarmed policemen and I told him to allow the policemen to do their job,” he told the Sunday Punch newspaper.
After initially claiming his voice was manipulated using speech software such as Natural Voices, Mr. Fayose later admitted during a political event in Ekiti that it was his voice that was captured in the tape but claimed he was rebuking Mr. Momoh for favouring the APC.
“If you listen to the tape about military rigging in Ekiti. Listen to the tape you will see that I was the one accusing the army of compromise. Listen, take time to listen. But they would come back with propaganda and saying it all as if the whole world of propaganda belongs to them,” he said.
Counter Allegation
While challenging the APC to do a critical content analysis of the discussions in the audio clip, Mr. Fani-Kayode said it was the APC that rigged the governorship election in Osun state.
“During the course of those elections, some of their agents gathered in secret locations where they thumb-printed ballot papers in favor of their governorship candidate, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola,” he said.
Mr. Fani Kayode also played a video tape he claimed proved the APC rigged the election in Osun state.
“It is ironic that instead of purging itself of its own insatiable appetite for rigging and cheating, the APC, through its Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, chose to call a press conference in which he alleged that our leaders were ordering soldiers to rig in Ekiti state.
“This is a clear case of the pot calling the kettle black,” he said.
APC, Buhari calling for violence At his press conference, Mr. Fani-Kayode also accused the APC and its presidential candidate of veiled attempts to instigate violence in the country, while also undermining the nation’s armed forces.
“It is now very clear to us that the APC is determined to cause security breaches in the next few weeks. This has been confirmed by their vigorous campaign of calumny against the military and their consistent demand that soldiers must not be deployed for security surveillance at the polling booths in the forthcoming elections,” he said.
Mr. Fani-Kayode also alleged what he termed subtle threat of violence by Mr. Buhari at an APC leadership meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
“General Buhari said that the patience of the APC and its leaders were on test. One wonders what he means by that and what he and his supporters intend to do once that patience runs out.
“In an AFP news report of Friday, February 6, 2015, he was asked if he would accept the outcome of the presidential election no matter how unfavourable. Listen to his answer: “I am not going to lose; so I won’t answer that question.”
“Again, only yesterday, Wednesday, February 18, 2015, in an interview on ARISE Television, General Buhari was asked what his reaction would be if he loses the election. His answer was: “We shall see.”
“As far as we are concerned, these are ominous and subtle threats to unleash violence on the Nigerian people and all those that he perceives are his enemies in the event of his losing the election,” he said.
Mr. Fani-Kayode said Mr. Buhari has succeeded in inflaming the destructive passion of his supporters in the northern part of the country on many occasions in the past.
“We recall his unacceptable remarks on May 15, 2012 when he said “if what happened in 2011 should happen again in 2015, the dog and the baboon would be soaked in blood”.
“We witnessed the orgy of violence that they unleashed shortly after the announcement of the results of the 2011 presidential election, which the Sheik Lemu Committee, in its report to the Federal Government, said was caused by Buhari’s inflammatory statements.
“We recall with sadness the massacre of some of our vibrant youth corps members who participated in the 2011 election as INEC’s ad-hoc staff in Bauchi State.
“We are concerned that the same thing may happen again given General Buhari’s divisive and inciting comments coupled with the APC’s violent disposition,” Mr. Fani-Kayode said.
He said the attempt by the APC to discredit the use of soldiers by promoting some “misleading audio footage of the so-called rigging during the Ekiti governorship election, in which one Captain Sagir Koli was the dramatis personae, is childish and absurd”.
He said the Nigerian Government deployed soldiers in the Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections and all those elections were devoid of violence.
“Remarkably, the APC won in Edo and Osun; APGA won in Anambra, Labour Party won in Ondo while PDP won only in Ekiti State,” he said.
He added that the basis on which the APC is agitating for the exclusion of soldiers from the election by sponsoring court cases is patently dubious and untenable.
“The reason that the APC and its leaders do not want soldiers deployed is to be able to intimidate voters and unleash violence on the polity once they lose the elections.
“They know that it would be far more difficult for them to do that when soldiers are on the streets.
“With these dishonourable tactics and desperate acts by the APC, we are the ones who should be worried and who should be complaining but, unlike Buhari and the APC, our patience is not running out because we are committed to a peaceful election and we completely reject the option of violence,” he said.

Ekiti Gate: APC Wants Obanikoro Banned From Public Office, Adesiyan Sacked As Minister
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has called for the
banning of former Minister of state for Defence, Musliu
Obanikoro, from holding any public office over his role in
the rigging of the governorship election in Ekiti state on
June 21, 2014.
APC Presents Ekiti Rigging Audio Tapes To The Public
Mr. Obanikoro’s name was Tuesday sent to the Senate for
confirmation as minister, by President Goodluck Jonathan. The
APC asked the Senate not to confirm Mr. Obanikoro.
APC also asked Nigeria’s armed forces to immediately begin
investigating Aliyu Momoh, a Major General for his role in the
alleged rigging of the election in Ekiti and repeating same in
Osun and ensure that immediate and necessary disciplinary
action are taken against all individuals that were involved in
what it said was subversion of democracy.
A video recording recently emerged of an intelligence officer in
the Nigerian Army, Captain Sagir Koli, giving details of how
General Momoh was used by Mr. Obanikoro, Ayo Fayose and
others to rig the election.
Also now in the public domain is a recording of a secret
meeting convened by top Peoples Democratic Party’s politicians
to strategise on how to rig the Ekiti election.
Rising from its first joint leadership meeting at the Shehu
Yar’Adua Centre Abuja, the APC also asked the Federal
government to immediately relieve the Minister of Police Affairs,
Jelili Adesiyan of his appointment.
The oppsosition party also asked the Nigerian government to
ensure that the armed forces are kept out of partisan politics in
line with a recent judgment by a court in Sokoto and its
affirmation by the Court of Appeal on Monday.
Part of the outcome of the joint leadership meeting was that the
rescheduled election dates of the March 28 and April 11 must
remain sacrosanct. The party said it would not tolerate any
further shift.
The party added that “the use of the card reader for the 28th of
March and 11th of April is non-negotiable, as contrary to the
misinformation being disseminated the use of card reader is not
synonymous with electronic voting”.
Speaking earlier, the party’s presidential candidate and former
Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, urged members of the party
not to “relax” after the completion of its campaign rallies
nationwide.
Mr. Buhari said APC should not lose focus due to the
extension. “Our patience and resilience will be tested in the
days ahead. We must pass this test. In a time like this, which
in football analogy can be referred to as extra time, we must
avoid making costly mistakes,” Mr. Buhari said. The APC
presidential candidate said the party must use the next six
weeks “to re-charge and re-focus on our goal”.
He said the goal of the APC remains to win the elections now
slated for March 28 and April 11 with a convincing majority.
“We should aim to achieve a victory that will be beyond dispute
and proceed to form the next government and start work on the
task of rebuilding our beloved country.
“Our eyes must be on the objective to build a great society that
works for all of us. A country where every child has an equal
opportunity to get an education, where every young Nigerian
who needs a job can find one. Where the sick are looked after
and senior citizens are provided for. A country which gives
value to human life, where the welfare and security of all is a
national priority and corruption is defeated,” he said.
Speaking on the Ekiti rigging debacle, Mr. Buhari expressed
surprise at the silence from the government over the matter.
“Up till now, there has been no official denial of this most
unfortunate event. It makes me wonder, in the circumstances
that led to shifting of the date of the Federal Elections, whether
the security services are even now being prepared to play
similar roles in the March 28th and April 11th elections.
Mr. Buhari said security services have serious constitutional
responsibilities to the people of the nation adding that their
importance to the health of the country cannot be
underestimated.
He urged the leadership of the security services to keep the
institutions out of partisan politics.
“I personally and, am sure, all Nigerians, have tremendous
respect for our security services. I therefore urge strongly that
they stick to, and concentrate on, their constitutional duties,
otherwise they stand the risk of becoming part of our already
complicated national situation,” he said.
He also thanked members of the party who took time to
participate in his campaign rallies across the country.
He particularly thanked those “who have been made mind
boggling offers by our opponents in a bid to break our ranks
and curtail our momentum in the march to change Nigeria for
good, yet you have chosen to be on the side of a cause that is
just”. He appealed to the party leaders and faithful not to rest
thinking that all is won. “Six weeks is a long time and we do
not know the plans of the other side but with our strong
resolve, we will prevail.
“Therefore let us keep our eyes on the ball. Let us work as we
have never done before, and let us watch and help each other.
The days and weeks ahead will be tough.
“Our resolve will be tested and all kinds of evil tricks will be on
display. But do not despair. The goal is in sight. Change is
coming. The people of Nigeria will prevail. God has destined
Nigeria to be a great country. We shall overcome and Change
shall be achieved,” Mr. Buhari said.
